The "galley" would prepare the food, I would eat on the "mess deck", you would eat in the "wardroom".

Are there seperate dining facilities for enlisted and officers in the USAF, or is the dining hall open to all ranks?

O'Clubs often have their own dining rooms though...
and of course "flight kitchens" where aircrews "grab & go,"
usually box nasties as we called them..

So on an Air Force base there's an O-Club for officers only, I presume an EM-CLub for the enlisted - and both of these have some sort of kitchen/dining area - as well as a dining hall where both enlisted and officers can dine?

We didn't have that. On a small ship - a patrol boat or a buoy tender - or on a small shore station, the CO and XO would eat with the enlisted, because the unit was so small that there wasn't a wardroom. Usally the highest ranking officer would either be a CWO or at most an O-3.

But at the larger shore stations, and on-board the larger cutters, there were seperate dining facilities for the enlisted and the officers. But there you had more officers, and higher ranks - Commanders, Captains (O-6), and Admirals.

The only exception I ever noticed to this was at AIRSTA Kodiak - where the flight crews all ate together - pilots, navigators, and aircrew.

Smaller bases have a shared club with separate lounges.

Used to be the junior enlisted were separated from NCOs, but now more than
likely they share an enlisted club, with a separate officer's club.

Generally, use of dining facilities is restricted to enlisted members...
on occasion officers can take meals in the DFAC after determining other facilities
are inadequate.

Collision between a small RQ-7 Shadow UAV and C-130 over Afghanistan.
Congested airspace and lack of sense and avoid technology for the UAV is to blame.

The RQ-7 UAV is used by the Army and Marine Corps.
Hey you Army and Marine guys need to learn how to steer better!

I'm honestly surprised to see this is the first collision. We've been ducking those things since 2001.

 

...ooooh they crashed into the (UAV) and that's one less slot for me...

They do not have TCAS, they do not squawk, they do not talk...why the (*)(*)(*)(*) do they use our runways? Anyways, more damage was probably done to the RPA guy's station after he spilled his coffee all over it after the incident.

 

i spotted a C-5 flying over the truck stop in Winchester, VA Thursday. some yahoo on the radio thought it was a C-130....

 

I gotcha beat. I spotted a B-52 doing practice IFR approaches at NAF Millington back in '89 and some idiot thought *that* was a C-130.
