Newsom Signs Bill Banning School Suspensions for ‘Willful Defiance’

"SACRAMENTO -- Students who act out in school will be staying put in their classrooms thanks to a new bill signed into law by Gov. Gavin Newsom Monday.

Senate Bill 419 bans elementary and middle schools from suspending students for “willful defiance.”

“Students who are being resistant in a non-violent way, perhaps verbally, talking back to the teacher or not responding to a command,” said Troy Flint, a spokesman for the California School Boards Association."

    What is the likely outcome?

Public education will graduate an even worse product/graduate than they presently do.

It just furthers their attitude of entitlement and not having to follow the law. Future gang members, if they are not already that.

Wouldn't it be funny if the first kid to challenge this was a well spoken conservative kid, telling his teacher exactly how wrong her rewritten history and her 25 gender pronouns were, and then schooling her on socialism.

Unfortunately, who am I kidding, it is California.

That kid would be kicked out for violating the group think rules.

    It's a bad knee-jerk reaction to a systematic problem.
Right now many schools have resorted to suspensions of students for all sorts of stupid reasons.

The best reaction is logic, common sense, and wise restraint, but the ones running the schools don't seem to have that, so the state has resorted to imposing laws on them.

Then there's the separate (but still big) issue of several of these schools being in "underprivileged areas" and full of juvenile delinquents. (Don't forget over half the public school population in the state now is Hispanic) The schools can't reasonably suspend 15% of their entire student population.

Lots of detention. Separate classes for problem kids.

I think you need to fix the link.

    This is what I got:

    Here is the Real Link:

Anyway, that "Law" sounds like a REALLY BAD IDEA. :salute:

One only needs to go back to the Parkland shooting and follow the path of that shooter who dozens and dozens of times indicated he was going to be a threat. Reas excerpts from the book "Why Meadow Died" and it will make you sick to your stomach. You may have to gather these from conservative websites as the alt-lefties want nothing to do with the actual causes.

Despite the elimination of harsher punishments school violence has declined proving once again no righty on this forum ever has a clue.

Sure they can, especially if it benefits the other 85%.

The needs of the many over the bad actions of the few.

Preferably with guards and bars on the window so that they can see the future that they are headed to.

Didn't miss a thing. These "non-violent" actions disrupt the entire class and lead to violence.

If that is what they are qualified for, yes. Nothing says a job in a cubical cannot be productive and positive for the society where these kids are going to have to live.
