I don't know about you guys but I was always told natural gas is better than using oil to heat a house and it's cheaper than electricity. For years I've seen commercials advocating the use of natural gas over just about all other alternatives and that includes using natural gas in vehicles. Now California wants to ban natural gas heaters. So far they've either tried to ban or actually did ban gas powered cars and trucks, weed eaters and lawn mowers, portable generators and Happy Meals.

People with a lick of sense are going to run from that state leaving behind the multi millionaires who can afford to withstand CA's insanity while sharing it with their beloved illegals and homeless. We are literally watching a once great state implode on it's own woke policies.

And if you want even more, then consider this: CA is trying to ban everything Hunter Biden and the Big Guy made fortunes on and that is oil and natural gas.

Natural gas (methane) is a powerful greenhouse gas. And natural gas lines often leak. When burned, it produces CO2. It makes senses to drive households to all electric. For one, with solar cells being so powerful and cheap now, they can replace the methane power with solar power.

Before long you might even be able to use spray-on solar cells.

Yes, because their electric car roll out is going oh so swimmingly! LOL. Although California fears the great earthquake, it might render itself impotent before then.

Heater guy wanted me to switch mine over so it’s not gas. Wanted like 10k to do it. Told him I’ll wait, I’m sure the state will offer some incentives before they ban them.

Yeah, there will probably be incentives for a while, but what about the people who have to replace their heaters before they go into place or when they expire?

I can see it now, if this actually happens the gas company won't run gas lines to new homes and developments which means you're forced to have an electric stove. It also means you won't have an outside BBQ fed by a gas line and when will CA ban propane? Heck, they already tried to ban wood burning fireplaces.

My wife was born and raised in CA and my mother-in-law, who is living with us, spent her entire life there, and I spent 21 years there. I asked both of them if they can think of anything CA to make life easier for people and they can't think of anything except for building highways.

When was the last time you heard of a major NG disruption :) Then again it's California, they have folks living inside a nylon bladder with only a bic lighter and candles for lights and heat ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This could really screw the people and companies who own rental apartment buildings. Think about it.

Wonderful, the state with the worst power grid in America is switching all of their heating to the electrical grid and mandating electric cars. At the same time they are crippling their power grid even more by switching to renewables. The catastrophe we will witness over the next decade will be as instructive as it will be entertaining.

Here is California's reality. These nuts are phasing out the two fattest parts of the graph below while more than doubling the demand via electric cars and heating pumps. Clown world.

Just slap on some solar panels on your house and you'd be fine...

    How?
They are banning the sale of the space heater and water heater appliances. You can keep the crap you got. It only becomes an issue if it's broken beyond repair.

Not really, owners just raise the price. The same people who support these feel good measures than ask why owners continue hike rental prices. It’s always someone’s fault when you debate with a leftist.

Tell that to people living paycheck to paycheck. Net metering is another way leftists screw the poor.

If someone needs to explain it to you there's a really good chance that cannot be explained no matter how hard they try

Ok, I’m going to type this slowly as to make sure you understand what I’m saying.

Say you’re a person or company that owns and apartment complex with 100 units. The average water heater has a lifespan of roughly ten years. The owners are looking at eventually replacing all those heaters at a cost of $10,000 each as per Melloguy. What do you think that will do to rents?

It just means burning the natural gas at the power plant and then sending it over a wire with a 30% efficiency loss. Instead of just sending it straight to their homes without a loss.

People going paycheck by paycheck, got 8 years to save. And that's only if they ALSO need a new heater. They can keep their old school crap as long as it's working.

But here is you, thinking it's the end of the world....

10K each? You can buy an electric heater for like 50 bucks a room.

A water heater isn't exactly 100% efficient. Most of the time, they keep a boiler at a certain temperature while there is need for it.

I guess it means the whole state of California and would that affect wood stoves as well? I hear they plan to have the ban by 2030.

You have to wonder how Californians are going to adjust to the new rules when it comes to natural gas heaters in the years to come.

Honestly I don’t expect all these pie in the sky enviro measures to last. I’m ok with the idea, but you need solid replacements first

Other than a stove, what is a natural gas water heater appliance if not for a regular water heater?

Here is the first sentence of the story:
Natural gas is what heats water in probably about 90% of all homes and probably a similar number applies to furnaces. Wait, it's right there in the article:
The article also says it will reduce utility bills for customers which is simply not possible, it's a lie. After Hawaii, California has the highest electric rate costs in the country. Making people switch from gas to electric is going to cost mucho dinero as their electric bills sky rocket.

Compared to other states, CA is in the middle of the pack with natural gas prices.

Check this out. First they (well, one area did, every other place probably followed later on) banned wood burning fireplaces in CA and forced them to use gas, now they're banning gas. You can't make this up.
