California high school students filmed giving Nazi salutes and singing Nazi war song

I don't know, kids putting their hands up like that and singing that kind of song probably have some idea of what they're doing.

 

Do these kids even know what a NAZI is?

 

Killing Nazis threatening to Aryanize the world is not the same as "killing black people" being a good thing.

Of course, given the outcome of the war, there is every interest in portraying as many Germans as possible as anti-Nazi or at least non-Nazi, and I am sure many of them were. 2/3 of the German voters voted against the Nazis in the last free election they held, nearly 40% of voters were Socialists or Communists. But people bow to necessity.

Erwin Rommel was of course the most outstanding example of a gallant soldier -- as an acquaintance of mine put it, almost admired as much by the Germans as he was by the British. Churchill paid him a compliment in parliament, attributing British setbacks in Northern Africa to various causes and, because they were facing, "If I may say it across the havoc of war, a great general."

But it's hard to resist the popular current, especially when it is reinforced with tangible sanctions. Not to compare the situations except as a hundred compares to one, but that's what it's like on the Left in the US today, especially in academia. There are private doubts, even private disagreements, when the latest mutation of crazy appears, but ... better to play it safe.

Just ordered it on Amazon. I noted the UK (where I live) Conservative MP Michael Gove, now a Minister Without Portfolio in the Government, recommended it. (That's one advantage of living over here, the British are ruled by people who read books, and even write them.)

I haven't read anything by Chernow ... I see he's a biographer as well, for other figures in American history, and I've put a couple of his bios on the 'saved for later' list.

I read Newt Gingrich's (and a co-author's) book about Gettysburg a few years ago ... well done but it didn't stick as one of those books you wish every young American would read. And I recall thinking that some of it was a bit close to The Killer Angels.

Things have changed a lot. I can remember driving back from Canada to Texas in our VW bus, passing through some little town in your state on a Saturday afternoon, and seeing little Black and white kids playing soccer together on a school playground. My English wife couldn't understand why I got a bit choked up as I pointed it out to her... I tried to explain that people had died so that could happen but I think she just wrote the whole thing off as another example of inexplicable American crazyness.

 

Yeah, and like my previous post, if they were Liberals or Democrats doing such, this board would have been lit up with all kinds of conspiracies.

 

They figured out how to really piss people off.

 

Most of us think that Grant had to do what he did, and that he did his duty very well. Sherman and Sheridan, too. They were soldiers doing their duty.

But so were our Confederate soldiers doing their duty.

In the end it turned out as it should have, as it must have. Winning is the only thing.

Personally, I see Grant on the same high pedestal as Lincoln. Men the world had to be blessed with.

 

Teens love to piss people off. What do you expect would happen when all Trump supporters are labeled as Nazis.

 

They see defecation in their streets, needles and homeless lying around.......like any rebellious teenager, they radically revolt against the status quo.

 

Yeah man, but turning to the National Zocialism of Hitler has to be made an example of, a fairly harsh example such as expulsion for the rest of the year.

Context is important. If the kids were joking, who cares? On the other hand, if this was a secret meeting of white supremacists considering terrorist attacks, then they should be punished.

In the context of public schools that won't expel students even after violent assaults on other students, open drug dealing, auto theft convictions and armed robbery convictions.... expulsions for jokes seems a little extreme.

Total overreaction. I will admit, if my son were involved, there would be a lot of personal consequences, but it's not something to ruin a teen's life over. Expulsion from school is a life ruining consequence.

They, two of the four Toddlers who call themselves The "Squad" are definitely not friends of Israel but do not confuse anti Israeli with anti Semitism. One of them, I believe it was the ethnic Palestinian Congress Chick did use the term ' it was all about the Benjamins ' which can be construed as term anti semites may use along with others. I have heard people use the phrase " I Jewed him down". Or a friend of mine told me that I had " out jewel the Jew" when I had negotiated for a used boat. We have all sorts of sayings that can be construed as racist such as "Indian giver", or or You got Gyped" in reference to Gypsies. Those are all questionable terms but not all who used them are racists.

I recall one time at a project planning meeting I had inadvertently and innocently labeled an optional approach to solving a problem as a viable final solution" to a claim over payment problem. One guy called after the meeting and told me he had considered "reporting " me HR for using an anti Semitic term. It was a not so good term to use because anyone who understands the horrors of the holacaust may be taken aback or worse.

The guy who '..itched" about me did not agree with our solution so I believe that is why he acted like a fallus head.

I do not consider Trump to be racist but he is a master in baiting racist into thinking that he is one of them
