Trump received half the number of votes Clinton received in the State of California. California is deep blue mostly because of the Los Angeles and the Bay area... California, like Pennsylvania and Illinois, have similar attributes: it's predominantly a red state but the metropolitan areas are the reasons why people consider it a "Blue State." I don't think it means anything for California. Their population is 40 million. In contrast, Alabama is about 4 million. In other words, with a 60/40 D/R layout, the Republican minority in California is about four times larger than the entire population of Alabama. So the lead in campaign donations is not surprising.
