Pull all troops, military aircraft, aerospace ground equipment, ships, Coast Guard, armor, ordnance, machinery, vehicles and everything not welded down, except the urinals and the commodes, back to bases in the USA. Be especially circumspect to remove the bars and décor from the enlisted, the NCO, and the officer clubs for relocation out of California to the USA. California will have to muster its own defense.

All contracts between the USA and California voided immediately.

In non-military federal facilities and buildings remove everything portable and transport it back to the USA or sell it at surplus auction. Layoff all federal employees and give California an option to pick them up if they can use them.

However, power plants, ports, and such will have to stay -- but no longer stay supported.

Lightning fast break, clean break, complete break, blitzkrieg eastbound and out.

Admittedly, I don't know what you do with the ninth circus, but probably let them stay and see if California can use them.

On the contrary. California would simply negotiate land/lease deals with the US much like has been done the world over, and those bases would remain. In an adult world, even one where a Calexit is actually considered, we can do it as adults, not like the petulant schoolboy tantrum you convey in your post.

Were Calexit to happen, California would become the world’s sixth largest economy, overtaking France and bypassing India. Domestically, the Golden State is the federal government’s largest contributor, with a GDP of $2.5 trillion, the Union's largest contributor.

Hate it, spit at it, post BS crap about it on the internet. There is a reason it's known as The Golden State. Evan a blockhead like Trump understands this simple fact. The US would be far worse off without California. That some of you hate it so much makes that fact all the more appealing.

Haha! Right on up their eastern border!
I can see Californians applying for asylum in Nevada.

Problem is it goes far beyond a mere court ruling. I'd love nothing more than to be rid of California but this isn't their decision to make. If memory serves, I seem to remember something in history class about the U.S. fighting a Civil War over this very issue.

Almost a half a million died. The side that wanted the right to secede lost. That rule remains in place.

Where will CA get their military? They’ll also need to set up their own version of justice, FBI, CIA, State Dept, etc. but they’ll save money with no Border Patrol, ICE, or DEA.

Yes, break it up. Don’t Sanders and Warren want to break up large and powerful entities?

You do understand the singular reason that myth exists is because Calicucks count all goods that pass through their ports as "their economy", right?

We'll either take those ports along with the federal land that doesn't belong to California or we'll simply divert the goods to Oregon and/or Washington.

Or even better we'll convert Rio Grande into a canal and put ports in Texas.

Because the discovery of gold generated that nickname over 100 years ago.

We'd only be worse off if we didn't change our apportionment laws after they left.

It would take less than a generation for California to fully collapse but by then we'd have our wall so they could just rot in their cesspool.

The state has ~80 cities in critical economic condition, in those cities is where over 1/3 of the State's population lives.

A few have already gone bankrupt, and more are slated for it.

And these aren't puny one horse towns either, they're major cities.

We're better off without them and the hate we have is justified.

California is an occupied land, occupied by illegal invaders and by a scumbag radical government.

    Good riddance.

Though it seems the right would love to punish California for being more progressive and showing it can work and generate much more money than a regressive red state the reality is only trump would be stupid enough to let them go. That is even though they threaten republican power. This is because California is both economically powerful to the US, and strategically. Really, like the US is going to let most of it's west coastline go and allow a uncontrolled state to take it over with a weaker military actually making a landing point for potential invasion.

This is not the European union which held little power and ownership over the sovereign nations within. This is a powerful federal government with interests in holding that land for a number of reasons. A few annoyed Californians are not going to take us land and make their own country. It is stupid like Texas's ideas for leaving, or any other state.

It is quite true that the US needs California despite the fact a few people on the right clearly despise them.

Now California has mandatory sex ed classes that include abortion, transgenderism, sex toys and lubricants - and the parents are not allowed to opt out.
They are headed for their own civil war.

No longer. They covered their orange groves with apartments, and prohibit the central valley access to adequate water out of protection for endangered toads. The central valley hates the leftists, and will not secede with them.

Lol...an illegal in CA will now be charged for an international call if he calls his brother in Arizona.

When I first moved to Corona, CA, there were miles of orange groves. Today houses sit on them, same thing with the dairy farms, although when it rains it sticks like hell in those areas.

Actually, given they already have an established economy to run from they could easily start manufacturing with their unused facilities and employ a number of unemployed to produce what they need and staff the military. Given they would probably be a progressive area they would immediately attract talent from other areas in the states to fill their needs. If they were to go they might attract some more states with a promise of a more intelligent and better society than America.

However this is all pipe dreams anyway. The US is not letting them go anywhere. If the US lets one state go you are talking about the end of the power of the Fed because every state that disagrees with the Fed is going to try to make their own government. You would probably split off Texas to floriduh next as a red state disaster. All of a sudden businesses are going to have all new regulations to deal with. Without the Fed's protection you would probably have some little Russian allied states popping up and some foreign military bases to go along with it for the monetary support of Putin.

It is nice to think in simplistic terms, as the people in California do with this idea, but the powers that be are not going to allow the US to split.

The thing is, it seems to me a lot of States would ratify an amendment to enable secession. Just look at the reaction in this thread. They would love to see us go. We would love to go. We don't need them. And it would be far better to amend the Constitution and end this nightmare peacefully, than have a civil war. It is in everyone's best interest to support secession rights; before this gets really ugly and millions of people die in a bloody war.

The grand experiment has failed. It is time to accept the facts and look at the best options. With Texas and California [and likely the entire West Coast] gone, what is left of the US would be mere shadow of its former self.

I agree, California isn’t going anywhere, it’s just a short sighted progressive pipe dream. But breaking it up does have a certain appeal.

The day trump was elected was the day my country betrayed itself and me. For me, the US died on Nov 8th, 2016. All that is needed now is a funeral.

It's that or a civil war. Take your pick.

You really have no concept of how much damage trumpers have done [gee, what a shock]. The US is already dead.

What trumpers don't get is that true patriotism demands that we reject trump and everything he represents. This isn't just about trump. This is about the US becoming what was once defined to be the enemy of liberty. Trumpers don't want America as it has always been. They want something it was never supposed to be. And there is no middle ground. From our pov, this is about good versus evil.

The pipe dream is thinking there is anything left to save. Millions and millions and millions of us no longer love this country because of what it has become.

A talking dog will enter the White House and become president before this happens.

I’d hate to be one of those successionists right now who think this actually has a snowballs chance in hell of happening.

It is already happening. It will take time but the US is already dead. Almost no one left of the insane right feels patriotic anymore. And they see people in red states as a threat to their freedom and rational thinking. It is fundamental and profound. What's more, they're right! Trumpers are a threat to to the planet, not just the country.

Hell, even listen to people like David Gergen. True patriots and intellects like Gergen are all but mourning the death of the US on TV. Everyone is so far beyond shock, outrage, and horror, that they have no words left to express their feelings over what is happening. Trump is killing the country.

You won't ever see a Repub POTUS either. CA leaving without civil war breaking out would trigger a Soviet style collapse. Hawaii, Alaska, Texas, Florida, PR, Vermont, New England and Cascadia would all be following CA thr that wide open exit door. I'm not sure how long a rump US would last without its economic base but however long it would certainly die.
