Interesting approach. The US keeps all federal assets? Then I guess California would not have to cover any of the federal liabilities (debt). They would start a new country completely debt-free.
That would certainly give them a pretty good start!

Judging by the righties on here, it's also a conservative wet dream. If Oregon, Washington, and California are together as a single nation, we would be a force to recon with. The red states will then have to be self sufficient and stop sucking on the government's teats wasting tax revenues no longer available from our contribution.

Once they succeed they'll be annexed by Mexico.

Mexico is a failed state. The place would look like the HRE if you drew a map that showed the various cartel fiefdoms. lol They're not invading ****.

What I meant, the state is already well on its way towards becoming a de facto Mexico, so they might even join of their own accord.

Last I checked about half the students in the public school system spoke a language other than English in their home.

That is nice and all, but there is a big difference between voting for a civil exit and going to war to get out. It is great that California is voting, but it would have to be something legislated from the federal government to happen. It is a possibility that might happen, sort of like it is a possibility we might put Mickey mouse on the dollar, but I would not hold my breath. If you are going down the violent leaving path you have to remember you are going to have to fight the people who don't want to leave within California and they are going to be backing possession by the Fed's.

So literally you will be branded state terrorists and any violent act will be met with police forces and the people involved will be jailed or killed like the Bundy followers. They were all about being sovereign citizens and the US went on and let them tire themselves out and busted them.

I guess if it were to ever happen this would be the first step to a legislative separation. I don't see that being supported in the next decade at least. You would need a lot of public support. You would probably have better luck splitting the state, but even that would have to be federally mandated.

I mean it always was. It was a Mexican state before it was an American state. ;)

More to your point, the migration trend has been south the past few years anyway. The 'illegal hordes' BS is a political tool that ignore the fact the bulk of illegals are Indians and Europeans overstaying their visas.

If it were to happen I think the more affluent California would probably absorb Mexico rather than the other way around.

But but who's gonna make America's films? Are you going to move Holy-wood to Kentucky or Idaho?
How about porn, all those sassy movies, who's going to make them if not Californians??

Nah, you cannot afford to let Cali go.

The state educated Europeans are a problem as they are multilingual, better educated, and have no debt so they can work for less. Those people come over here to make a lot of money and ship goods and wealth back to their home countries while Americans miss those positions.

The hard part is for a global business those people are much better suited for the job than an American farmland worker who is only used to dealing with Americans and has a chip on their shoulder about foreigners. That is not to mention being somewhat religious intolerant and opposed to other cultural learning. When I lived in New York I used to meet Chinese women who were incredibly smart and motivated. They would speak over five languages, understand math and business, and work hard because they got out of China. If you think you are smart those women would make you feel stupid and quaint. That is because they travel the world and deal with all sorts of people and are not just ****ing around in America expecting everyone to conform to their hick ways.

Somehow I doubt the creation of a new country would be that simple.

You are right - but you certainly tried to make it simple when you effectively said, "we (the remainder of the US) get to keep all the assets".
I was just pointing out the obvious corollary to your position: if RemUSA gets to keep all the assets, it also gets to keep all the debt.

You didn't really think that through, did you?

I understand the purpose of breaking up California and that makes more sense. In reality new York should be broken up also. It is a completely different state below the Hudson. They problems of the large northern areas are not the problems of the NYC expanse to the Hudson and long island. I think it would make more sense for the rural areas of the state to use the great lakes and Albany as their financial sources and legislative powers because they are more in tune with the upstate region. Below the Hudson is very NYC influenced and it is important to have that area monitor itself.

I would imagine California has a lot of the same thing going on with different regions having different issues that a more fragmented government could address more easily. However, I am aware most of the right wants this to happen only to save the republicans by pulling out the red from the blue so as to weaken dems power in the legislature and presidential elections. If the move was to be made to divide up California we would have to redo the legislative power of all states to reform a proper union.

I never said otherwise. My point is that more Mexicans are going home than crossing the border illegally. But Europeans don't stand out and Indians pay top dollar for work visas. Poor Mexicans are a great scapegoat and whenever the question of illegals comes up a politician can publicly bash the (self-deporting) Mexicans without having to actually do anything about the (filthy rich and politically active) illegals that are actually a 'problem'. I'm sure a concerned citizen that isn't using 'illegal' as a dog whistle realizes this but as long as there isn't a news crew when they call it out, the politicians won't care.

People don't realize that there's a lot of poverty in addition to all the wealth in California. Many people also don't realize that there is a lot of wealth in Mexico in addition to all the poverty.

Despite California's huge gigantic population now (it's more than the entire country of Canada), Mexico still has 3 times more people.

3 times as many people isn't 3 times as rich.

We have a new supreme court and in the Civil War the States rebelled if the current Congress wants to let them go they could try to authorize it but I want them to pay off their share of the national debt and to 'buy' all Federal Lands and they should be barred from returning to the nation as a whole for a century they go they should go.

    Move Hollywood?

    HELL NO!

That cesspool can stay right where it is and they'll keep making tv and movie until the market is eventually be displaced by domestic production.

Movies these days are so bad, case in point: sJJw Abram's Race Wars: The SJW Awakens and Race Wars: The Last Straight White Male Dies.

This nation was handed a crap shoot between Hillary and Trump. Regardless of who won we would up with a shitty president. The reason this happened is because people spout off crap about other people being evil, uninformed, and traitors simply for having a different opinion. There is a serious "if you're not with us, then you're against us" mentality going on and it all stems from people not wanting to act like adults and actually talk about things and trying to see where the other person is coming from. So if you got a problem with Trump than quit feeding into that mentality because all that is going to do is continue to give us the worst possible people for the job instead of someone who is qualified.

I think the New California proposal linked to in the OP has a better chance of succeeding and actually is a good idea.
