The high school student who recorded this rant was wearing a Marines sweatshirt, but that didn't matter to this ignoramus.

    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/01/2...st-low-in-classroom-rant-caught-on-video.html

The student's father and uncles were vets who had served in Viet Nam, Desert Storm, and Afghanistan.

If it were up to me, my position would be that I was paying him to teach history. I am not paying him to verbally abuse the students' parents or loved ones. I'd fire him on the spot.

    What say you?

I agree with the guy on recruiters to be sure.

The rest seems impolitic, but I like free speech, so meh - if you want to compare Obama to Hitler or military recruiters to pimps, go for it.

But equal time for countervailing views. :)

That dude is a putz. Some of the smartest people I've ever known are veterans. If my brother weren't a teacher and I have a great amount of respect for him, I might reply with "those that can do, and those that can't teach." My employer favors hiring veterans and we average a lot more income than teachers. I just feel bad for his students and hope that he has to find a new job elsewhere.

This is a teacher in a cali union. He will probably get 5 years paid vacation then a promotion based on merit.

    Thread summary:

"This single person did something dumb, so all liberals are awful!".

It's a conservative staple tactic. It keeps the base hysterical, and deflects away from real topics.

Now, we liberals could spam hundreds of such threads about dumb conservatives, but we don't, being we can discuss actual issues.

It's just one more example of another socialist saying something stupid. It's not like we have many smart things they've done, so we're stuck with laughing at the stupid things they do.

You were in a classroom taking instructions from teachers once. Is it your premise you didn't learn a damn thing?

We have long known teachers do this to students.

Depending on his location, he probably will get a huge raise and a letter of praise.

Bear in mind, it is CA and here I expect this to take place.

You are the first person to mention political leanings and mention "liberal". The rest of us actually are upset about what he said.

It's my premise that most Teachers at K through 12 are good people who are, for the most part, capable of teaching, but not of doing - On the other hand, our colleges are filled with highly paid dimwits who aren't capable of mopping a floor yet are allowed to teach our children. - I speak of the arts and not the sciences.

Now that statement is just dumb. Their career is TEACHING, it's their JOB, so yes, they are doing. You are just acting a snob because you think teaching is beneath you despite the fact that without them, you would have learned zero.

Somebody like that might get students to think, and perhaps even make them curious. If that point can be reached, the point where students free themselves to think, that's much more important than the information presented.

If you have to speak ill of one group to get students to thing, you don't know how to teach.

There are literally thousands of ways to accomplish that without claiming veterans are idiots.

You can Youtube examples of good teachers effectively doing it.

This is a very sad way to defend this guy for what he did.

Yeah, sure, free speech and all ... Trouble is, this is a high school teacher, not a college teacher, not a politician addressing other adults, not a journalist writing an article. The audience is high school students, typically between ages 14 and 17. It is not an equal relationship. Believe it or not, but students are still expected to be respectful of their teachers, and teachers are still given the power to uphold order in their classrooms, being the adults in charge. Many children are taught by their parents to be respectful of those adults who are their teachers, and those children know that their parents expect this. They are wholly unprepared to counter a verbal assault like this.

And, as a taxpayer, I am not paying that teacher to do this. Let him exercise his freedom of speech on his own time. I am paying him to teach history. I am not paying the cowardly little low-life to verbally abuse my children, I'm paying him to teach history. As far as I'm concerned, since that's what I'm paying him to do, he can damn well limit his speech to the curriculum he is being paid to teach.

My son went to college after he served 4 years in the Marine Corps which included two hellish combat deployments. I doubt this punk would have the balls to say the same bullsh-t in a college class knowing that combat veterans were in the class. But bully a 15 year old? Yeah, he can do that.

Oh man. That is awesome! I am going to do that as soon as I'm done with this post.

Jay, see my response to Antiduopolist above.

Most likely the teacher is tenured and it's difficult to remove him. Like the rest of them. Remember that guy Ward Churchill, Melissa Glick and Lisa Durden took years before they were fired. Seems once they are tenured they're like embedded ticks. There's a lot of them out there from elementary Schools to the high halls of academia.

I'm saying that if a student breaks free, removes the chains from his mind and realizes that the teacher has given him pure grade D bullshat, that student has broken free forever.

And with that teacher being the catalyst to the near miraculous, it could be better that he remains in his job.

What about the other kids that just accept it as gospel? The teacher screwed up. I bet a veteran could do a better job of teaching.

I can only hope there are many like me, who believed all they got in math and chemistry, but didn't believe the half they received in civics, social studies, history, and government. I kept my questions to myself because the idea is to pass and get a diploma, not rock the boat.

Context Matters. It is not like the whole military consists of a bunch of dummies but there is a significant percentage who are not the sharpest tools in the shed. It is also true that some are they because there are little other good choices. Generalizing this to the whole military on the other hand is - generalizing :)

On the other hand ... there is far too much glorification of the military and way too much state propaganda and covering up of what what the powers at be use our military for. (psssst .. its not for defense of your freedom or the homeland most of the time).

He should go teach classes on Camp Pendleton and give full throat to his opinions there. I'd recommend doing it at 1st MRB.
