California should change their lexicon to incorporate the word "tax" in front of every word they utter as that is the only thing that state does now!

    Sounds like a good idea.

People need to get a life and not spend so much time texting.

There has always been a tax on landlines — since landline use has dropped precipitously the PPP is underfunded. So this isn’t a “new tax” it’s just being added to more used services.

All taxes need to be consolidated into a base income tax rate so people know what they are actually paying. Eliminate taxes on sales, consumption, food, goods and services and just have a single rate.

Many people with friends would disagree with you.

To bring it more into your realm, would you be ok if you were taxed for every post you made online?

They might be doing this at the behest of their corporate overlords in Silicon Valley.

I'm sure many a tech company would like if their main competition (SMS's) were hit with a tax.

It pushes people to their increasingly censorious platforms.

Why not a consumption tax and get rid of the rest?

The California PUC has been politicized by the Democrats for decades. It's been run by liberal and progressive Democrats for decades.

Ever wonder why Jerry Brown has been really quiet about PGE power lines causing the "Campfire" in Paradise, California ?

Guess what Jerry Brown's sister does for a living ? She deals with the PUC on a daily basis as one of the Directors for Sempra Energy, which owns the Southern California Gas Company. :eyepopping:

    California Public Utilities Commission
The California Public Utilities Commission is a quasi-executive agency in the California state government. The commission regulates the state's "privately owned electric, natural gas, telecommunications, water, railroad, rail transit, and passenger transportation companies." The commission consists of five commissioners appointed by the governor and confirmed by the state Senate. The administrative head of the commission is the executive director, who oversees day-to-day operations...

I have read that it would same the economy due to hoarding of money. I also don’t think people should be taxed on basic necessities which would require opening of loopholes which become exploited.

An income tax (on all sources of income) eliminates most of these issue.

What business is that of yours or the government?

Its even worse. A background check is required to purchase ammo. In Los Angeles, ammo purchases are logged and require a thumbprint.

There's a bit of a problem there with who gets to determine how one lives their life. So long as they're not committing a crime - and unless they're texting while driving they aren't - what business is it of the government to determine how much anyone texts?

Someone asked you a similar question, AJ - and it's actually a good one. I just broke 10,000 posts and I've been here since mid-2012. You're at 15,000 and you started a few years after me. Do you see where this is headed?

That is a crime. I guess our politicians believe that those willing to risk the penalty for murder would not risk the penalty for bringing ammo into the state.
