Its not much differant now in lets say Saudi Arabia, it is very common there for pre teens to be married to men 4x plus their age. In recent years a tiny portion of their government called for restricting the age to 18+ but was immediately shot down by the royal family and conservative religious scholars......as of right now all that is required of a ten year old is a verbal talk and..a physical exam..and all that exam is? To verify if the child has or is having a menstruation. In muslims eyes if a girl has had her period? Shes ready

We know what happened the last time the Europeans tried to tell us what to do.

Then read my post. Right now in conservative majority muslim countries like say Saudi Arabia? There is no age limit..all that is required is the same qualifications as in Mohammads time...a talk and a physical exam..nevermind the fact that 10 to 11 years is average for a girl to have her first menstruation and its not uncommon to happen as early as 6-7 years.

Thats right now. And they like it that way because the religious scholars and the royals are strict conservative muslims. Google Aisha and Mohammads marriage...they married when she was max 7 and she lived with her family until she was 10 then she moved into his home...why 10? Same as now..she needed her period first.

No comparison whatsoever. Yelling fire into a theatre is illegal because it could lead directly to a violent act; a stampede of people running for the exits.

Criticizing/having a negative opinion on "islam" or its alleged "prophet" is not physically dangerous to anyone except those with demented/sick minds prone to violent acts.

The EU's new Blasphemy Laws were certainly designed to prevent more cartoon riots and the many subsequent killings. Muslims will be celebrating this decision but will the cowering Western Europeans respond? I doubt it.

Unfortunately, yes. It's a small victory for Islam but hey, every totalitarian system wants to shut their opponents up.
I can imagine Islamic primates celebrating this decision just like they celebrated 9/11. Gloating is the joy of the devil.

The biggest hypocrisy is none of these prohibitions against offending religion applied to Christianity while the Left was waging a sustained war against religion in the 60s and 70s (and even well into the 80s too, I might add).

The reality is that Islam can't tolerate offenses against it, and to keep the situation from falling apart the Left has being kowtowing to Islam. Not a big problem since they've never really been supporters of free speech. Islam and the Left... so completely incompatibly opposite from each other, and yet in other ways so alike.

Another member here, Brewskier, pointed out it's an alliance of convenience, kind of like Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia at the start of World War II.

Muslims seem to be enjoying a lot of these small victories in recent years. What would the major one look like?

Great, this thread went from talking about freedom of speech, to personally attacking people who don't agree with your religious stance.

    Awesome

Because I'm certain you and everyone else expect the same. Yes, there are beliefs that should not be respected, but Islam is not one of them. Jesus has been accused of being a homosexual because he had no known girlfriends or a wife.

Free speech doesn't mean that I've to take you or anybody seriously nor do I have to give credance to what they're saying.

Who do you think you are to dictate to other people what they should respect and what they shouldn't respect ? An enlighted dictator ?

Why should Islam be respected? Can you give a few good reasons?

So then you admit that God's instructions in the Bible (to stone) were WRONG. That you have a fallible god.

Then they should also respect their beliefs by passing a law against women driving cars or showing skin. We wouldn't want to offend anyone, right?

Respect Islam IF Islam has earned your respect, but NOT if it has not earned your respect. A pedoprophet does not earn my respect.

So a belief in equality and justice for all it isn't worthy of respect?
A belief encompass so many things that it must be analyzed before being rejected.

not saying that religious beliefs as a whole have any values but our societies have been built on a foundation of those beliefs.

Only thing sad is the belief that we need such laws.

Apparently we do. There is very little respect for anyone these days. It's become a me me world.

This is what happens when political correctness is allowed to eviscerate people's fundamental human and civil rights and this creeping fascism is already here...
