    You're right; In healthcare, a free market is more accurately described as a captive market. . . . "For-profit" introduces a host of problems.

    If extortion was legalized, how could it be effectively regulated???

    Nothing to compare it to....There hasn't been 'Free Market Healthcare' since physicians made house calls and even bartered for their services.

    There are about 11 million illegal immigrants, not 30.

    11 million is about 3.5% of the population. So unless the problem can be fixed with a 3.5% correction... Even deporting all the illegal aliens would be insignificant.

    "Cheaper price or better product - pick one" The USA, prior to Obamacare, was more or less a free market system, and provided the best healthcare on the planet. Other countries, with universal healthcare, could beat the price but couldn't match the quality. So either way you go, there are going to be advantages and disadvantages.

    I saw an orthopedic surgeon 18 days (02/28/2017) after my referral from my primary. I had x-rays and an MRI on 03/10/2017. I am scheduled for knee replacement surgery on 03/20/2017. If I was in Canada I would have to wait till November 17, 2017 for that same surgery. I will be back work and doing anything I want long before then. My knee hurts so bad I can barely walk, I'd rather pay a little more for that much faster service.

    Why then, is there such a booming business in healthcare tourism, where Aunt Lydia can fly to India or Thailand, get her hip replaced, recuperate and fly back home for less than one third the price she would have paid utilizing "free market healthcare"?

    You keep telling lies that we have the best of the best. Maybe that's true for cutting edge technologies like cancer research. But, when it's a garden variety hip replacement, and it's 2/3rds cheaper to do that internationally, your statements fails to hold water.

    Your "loud majority" are located in just 2 states New York and California and consist mainly of the "Gimme free stuff crowd". It's why Trump won the electoral votes by such a wide margin........

    You didn't refute my statement at all. In fact, that is exactly what I said: we have the best healthcare, but it costs more. What are you not understanding? Also, I don't appreciate being called a liar, only for you to admit in the very next sentence that I am telling the truth about the quality, but acting like its a lie because it costs more (which I also said).

    But we don't have the best healthcare for anything but the most esoteric or complex illnesses. 99% of the time an American citizen can travel to a foreign country and receive as good or better healthcare for 1/3 the cost.
