In my politics blog I recently asked the question - can the environment cope with another recession? It might be difficult to think of the environment above other factors like jobs creation and failing banks. But what happens if we do place it at the heart of development programs? I don't know why people get all worked up over the environment. God already said he was building us a new Earth and this one would be destroyed. It seams pretty stupid to me to protect something that is going to be destroyed any way. Read the Bible people!
It would be more expensive to eliminate many of the existing environmental programs, than to keep going forward. The rising cost of energy (not part of COLA) incentivises people to buy low energy use products. The development of alternative energy is still in work in private industry. The biggest blow are things like the Solyndra scandal.
Actually, the Bible is spot-on in some aspects. For example, Proverbs 26:11 is a perfect description of global-warming deniers who insist on repeating long-disproved denier talking-points.
