    Hello,

their is a lot of topics about that, but none as far as I know consider this problem on that angle :

Can war with North Korea be avoided ?

I don't personnaly think so. Even if they hate the US, I think that peace can be build with Cuba, Iran as long all parties do efforts, they're maybe dictatorship but they're reasonnable.

North Korea is just a huge sect and is not ruled by logic. Some people call D.Trump insane, I don't have an opinion on that, but Kim Jong Un is clearly totally insane.

I just found back that quote from a guy who fought nazis, Julien Freund :
"You think you are the one who point the ennemy, like all pacifist. As long you don't want ennemies, you wouldn't have any you think. But it's the ennemy who point you. And if he want to be your ennemy, you could do your best friendship declarations, as long he want you to be your ennemy, you are."

War with NK is only avoidable in 2 ways.

We bury our heads in the sand and pull our troops out of SK while hoping NK doesn't attack.

Or option 2 is that Fat Kimmy is killed or deposed before attacking.

I really dont see a way to avoid war by letting the current status quo continue.

A country full of death camps who refuse most outside contact isn't may be the best example of sanity ?

In 1935, war with Hitler couldn't have been avoided.

    There's always an alternative.

It may not be optimal, but it exists.

No. Their is some people with you can reason, their is people you can't. You can always want peace with djihadist or north korea, they will still want to kill you. Peace is something which can be build only at two (or more), if one of the part is not willing, you can't and North Korea is not slighty willing to make peace.

There's a huge difference between can war be avoided, & making peace. To or not to participate in one, in reality, means very little to the other.

    All war can be avoided.

The consequences might suck, but it can be done.

    Ask Ghandi.

You think to the indian civil war ?

I'm not saying that no war can be avoided, I'm saying that not all wars can be avoided.

Yes. All wars can be avoided but not without cost. It's so simple to get peace. Just wave your white flag and accede to all the demands of the aggressor. :hiding::truce:

If the strong party advances, the weaker party just retreats until he has his back to the wall.

Taking an analogy, if a wolf wants to gobble up the lamb, it will be futile for the lamb to resist. Its only way of escaping is to run for its life, but in almost all cases it will end up in the wolf's stomach.

Let me narrate an anecdote. My friend was having his lunch at small roadside food-stall one day. One guy passed by and sneezed at his food, "Atishoo!" As the ruffian was tall and stout with the look of a gangster, my friend just kept quiet and bought another a new set of meal to replace the polluted one. Had he given the ruffian even a look of reproach, there would be a big fight, and my weaker friend would most probably end up in a hospital.

On an individual level, my friend had lost a few dollars worth of lunch as the price for peace. Some people may ask, "Isn't peace worth more than a few dollars?" On the national level, the price would be astronomical with the loss of political or economic rights, national sovereignty and territories.

    No argument from me.

I don't think I could be more clear in my stand though.

I am still holding out a fading hope that China will be the parent and rein in its evil step child.

If China doesn't, I think there will be war.

Yeah, I wonder how people who were on the opposite side of djihad wars, Gengis Khan wars or Alexander the great wars could have been avoided.

The fact you're repetiting it doesn't make it true.

Pacifism is a noble wish, but it can't exist if you consider human nature.

I'm no pacifist, & I don't necessarily think ANY war should be avoided... Cull the herd as it were.

Fact remains, all wars can be avoided. It just depends what you're willing to give up.
