    Wonder what the indigenous people think of this claim.

    American exceptionalism is just nationalistic idiocy. People are people are people, and where you were born and who your folks are is nothing more than a cosmic dice roll.

    Capitalism has certainly lead to a global elevation in standard of living for most people. It's flawed, no doubt, but I don't know that from an institutions perspective we could have arrived at any other system of exchange. Most of human history is marked by small (usually rivalrous groups), that we managed to arrive at any means of exchange that wasn't just plunder is remarkable.
