I was not rude - I was amused. The normal reaction if someone is using the word "obey" is in my thoughts the picture of an old Jew who stands with his suitcase on a bus-stop where he's waiting for a bus direction Auschwitz-Birkenau because someone from the Hitler-Administration wrote him a letter to do so. There are no automatisms. To obey can be as right and wrong as to resist. The real decisions are not simple - and it's your decisions whom to trust, what to believe and so on ... What you are thinking is not less or more important. It's your life - your responsibility in the eyes of god in the end. You are the professional who is able to be the master of one life exactly: your life.

The pope calling for a global entity has left me with the impression any religious sanctity the church once possessed is dust in the wind. It is no longer the Lord who pulls the strings. I trust protestant denominations more at this point for at least having God as the center of their rationale, whether right or wrong in their stances.

Are they doing it because they need more money out of peoples pockets or because they need more kids to rape?

the main issue driving people away is TRUTH. Once people stop believing the lies of the church they walk away.

What do you call "lies of the church"? Do you have a concrete example?

Historians will one day realize that Vatican II was as destructive to the Roman Catholic Church as the Protestant Reformation.

Perhaps the problem is that all this processes stopped. There's for exampel no spiritual difference between men and women. Maybe the best way of a church service is made from a man and a woman together. But no one is really discussing any longer - there are only automatisms. The protestants are doing always everything because it's new - catholics are never doing anything if it is new. A part of the confusion in our world here could be the result of the confusion of all Christians. But there is a truth - and this truth is alive. The way is direction life - not direction destruction. "Vaticanum II" is direction life.

Naw...I think the pendulum just swung too far. It's good to open doors and invite personal scholarship and devotion--it's just it wasn't implemented very well. We're headed in the right direction with the new translation of the Roman Missal.

Did in fact the 'Reformation' actually cause needed 'reform' in the old Roman church?! Did it fall on the heels of the pope in Rome selling indulgences to the European feudal lords to get $$$ to build St. Peter's basilica in Rome? Hasnt Roman Catholicism 'evolved' and modernized thru much faulty doctrine over even the past 100 yrs. And when I say 'modernized,' I mean re-inspect the meaning behind the scriptures and requalify certain positions. No Catholic who is honest about the history of the church can dispute it's past errors, crimes (read "Foxes Book of Martyrs"), and say that the church was 'without sin' at certain times in its past.

I say, that the Roman Catholic church needs 'more' reforms: such as 'de-sinning' birth control, while accepting couples using the 'rhythm method, which is still 'man' trying to work around God's will. And, BTW, just as birth control can 'fail,' so also can the rhythm method. Again, if it's God's will for a child, He can still have 'His way.' But I'm afraid that religious arrogance & vanity, and not admitting that the church 'may' be wrong on certain issues, will not occur until a major exodus from the church occurs....

Neither was destructive, IMHO. The Protestant Reformation was a good thing for the Catholic Church as a religion, bad for it politically. There was an awful lot of corruption in the Renaissance before the Reformation.

Vatican II, as written, is a good thing. A lot of things done in the name of Vatican II are not.

OT Law says to "keep the Sabbath holy." The Christian denomination of 7th Day Adventists believe (and with much backup, ref Hal Lindsay series on Hope TV) that the Sabbath must be celebrated on Saturday, as Roman paganism moved it to Sunday to coincide with their other gods with the 'Romanism' of Christianity..

Irregardless, Jesus said that "The Sabbath was meant for man." As a Christian, not following dead works, every day shud be the fellowship with their God. Ergo, every day is the Sabbath day....

If it gets more people coming back more often than just Christmas, Easter, and any other major holiday/ event and reading the Bible, then it sounds good to me. As for me, I'm sticking with the Baptist Church I go to now. I may or may not be on the correct path (even my place is right), but at least I'm moving in the right direction.

I don't think we even have any Catholic churches in my neck of the woods, unless they're in Greencastle.
