The Census Bureau reported that income inequality between the haves and have nots grew to it's highest level from 2017 to 2018 as the effects of the tax cuts for the wealthy showed their result. The unit for measuring the inequality is known as the GINI Index which rose from 0.482 in 2017 to 0.485 in 2018.The GINI is measured from 0 to 1 where 0 is perfect equality and 1 is perfect inequality. The index has been rising steadily for the past few decades.Three states with the largest gains in inequality were states with large pockets of wealthy inhabitants California,Texas and Virginia but significant gains were also made in the heartland states of Alabama,Arkansas,Kansas,Nebraska,New Hampshire and New Mexico.

Not surprised by this.....roughly 50 years ago the left created the "Great Society" and the failed "War on Poverty" and all they have done is driven our national debt up, and created a class of dependent people. It's time to undo this madness, it's time for major reform to entitlements and welfare.

I see a great example of this inequality growing in the Pa. county in which I reside, which saw the largest increase in household income in the tristate area(Pa.Del&N.J.) in the past year a, 5% growth from $ 84,749 to $88,569.

Welfare is stagnation, meanwhile the rich keep using the same skills which made them rich and they become richer. (It's also easier to make money with money, so once you're well off it's easier to use your money in ways to make more money.) All the while the welfare class are still stagnant; too lazy, stupid, irresponsible, or [insert excuse] to work their way out of their welfare hole, thus the gap between the "haves and the have nots" continues to grow.

I'll have more money next week than I have this week, and I'll have more money next month than I have this month. Meanwhile the welfare folks will still be making exactly the same amount. Thus grows the inequality.....

Because the poor become dependent because the left doesn’t require work. The rest capitalize on that and feel the vaccum left and continue to succeed

I want to work 0 hours, I want to contribute 0 effort, I want to pay 0 taxes, I want to help 0 part of the time, I want to care 0 about this country's growth but I want all of Jeff Bezos' money.

In some ways, the income inequality gap will continue to increase, because being dirt poor, homeless and living on the street never changes, having nothing to your name in 1920, is the same as having nothing to your name in 2020. People with nothing will always have nothing. Meanwhile in the nation's most successful business sectors the people keep increasing their standard of living.

Any young person with $3 a day and discipline can easily become very wealthy by retirement age.

Another way of putting it, if you goof off in K-12, never apply yourself, have three kids before age 21, you have no skills, and no job, you will be just as bad off as the same types of people were 50 or 100 years ago. Meanwhile, every year from now until eternity, we have people dozens and dozens of new millionaires every year.

So you are saying we have millions of dirt poor people living on the streets with no hope so how has that made America great again???????But the wealthy have only added to their great wealth?

It's not Social Security per se....many people work hard their entire lives, save tons of money, and collect SS that they paid into over the years when they reach a certain age and retire.

The issue is the 27 year old, that can work, but gets SSI because they can't stand very long because they have shin issues

The good news is, because of 401Ks and the Roth IRA, more and more Americans each year are retiring with their 401K, and collect their social security check. Retirees are better off financially, than their counterparts were just a decade ago. I wonder how these people affect the computations of the wealth gap.

Well that’s because you don’t understand what social security includes in its entirety..part of SSI is social security disability.

I know a few kids who are on it, because they have so many learning and behavioral disabilities, their parents collect an SSDI paycheck every month, for life.

Because you are old, and thus too stupid to get out of your own way,. Remember to be very afraid, and VOTE DEMOCRAT, because the repubs want to steal your SS check. ;)
