Some folks are up in arms over the proposed provision on the next census form including a question about the citizenship of everyone in the household. Assuming the responses were to be trusted, it seems like useful information to have.

I don't suppose those here illegally would answer the census, or at least answer truthfully, but it would be good to know. Fear that the information could be used against those here illegally anyway seems to be missing the point a bit.
The town I live in sends out a mini census every year as well. It is part of staying on the registered voting rules. It asks about the citizenship status or country of origin of everyone in the household, and the world does not seem to have ended because of it.
@unkotare Constitutionally, The census is about apportioning the House of Representatives. Other than the 3/5ths clause, I know of no phrase that mentions accounting for citizenship nor legal status nor that one person is not counted as one person. Si?
My understanding if the Census as mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the United States Constitution, is about gathering information about citizens for the purposes of representation and taxing. Asking questions about guns would seem irrelevant.

why not kitchen utensils and baseball bats? medications & quantities? household products for cleaning? automotive liquids? automobiles? cordage? duct tape? trash bags? or any of the other many things that are used to kill/harm people and are far more numerous than any gun related deaths...
Years ago, I remember an uproar about asking how many toilets in the home. The Census must be limited to only counting persons as Article 1 Section 2 says. Not citizens. "Persons". Counting anything else is unconstitutional and should be left to private for hire counting businesses. thus spaketh Moi
