Been hearing about Chick-fil-A for years. I know it has a highly dedicated following. I know that when a new one opens in an area for the first time, there are often lines that stretch around the block with people waiting for the doors to open. And while I know it has gotten to be a political thing, I have always wanted to try it. With all the hoopla I figured they must have some kind of highly addictive secret recipe.

So I finally tried it. Pfffft. It's just more shtty fast food. What a joke! It's not even as good as Kentucky Fried... or El Pollo Loco, for that matter.

El Pollo Loco... now THAT is damn good chicken!!! That is the best chicken I've ever had in this country.

I put Mr. Arthur Davis up against anybody in the world. The vid is 2:30 long:

He's a Florida A&M grad and a retired Florida Power exec who now gets to do what he loves.

you have to be bilingual to order at 'el pollo loco'

'uno', but you can't make special requests.

Agreed. I never heard of it until we had to move for a job transfer. All the hoopla...didn't flesh out at all. Honestly, and not to turn this into a debate, I think it's kind of like Hollywood movies that are about Christianity. People will rate them very highly solely based on their religious beliefs over the actual depth, presentation and form of the movie. I don't care for KFC but I'd eat it over Chic-Fil-A any day (except Sunday, of course ;-).

Got to thinking about it, I don't have an El Pollo Loco [The Crazy Chicken] around here. And I do miss their chicken. Best I ever had...except for a place where I got some chicken in Peru...I think it was... But that is just too far to drive for chicken. :D

So, you can make your own. Apparently some chefs have decoded their recipe.

No, I just looked it up last night. But now I'm dying to try it..

Citrus and Pineapple juice... that would explain the unusual flavor! And the key is that you have to marinade it for a long time - at least 8 hours.

Falena, in fact, I am confused about pressing the chicken... I don't quite understand how that is supposed to work. If you know could you please do some splainin? Or I was guessing there is a video somewhere...

Actually, that does make sense. Her explanation is just a little awkward on a first pass for the unfamiliar.

Now I have to find a wall with some loose bricks... :D Do I need to use mortar?

I try NOT to EVER go to franchises. Give me a mom and pop any day. Unfortunately, only franchises will survive the covid economic pain.

Pressing the chicken is just putting weight on top of it so the chicken will cook flat and the heat is evenly distributed. They have grill presses or bacon presses but you can cover bricks with aluminum foil and basically get the same results.
Im going to marinate the chicken Wednesday and cook it Thursday. Ill let you know how it comes out.

This is my favorite beef marinade for BBQ shish kabobs. It is also good for lamb and other meats.

It is incredibly tangy and insanely tasty. in fact, I found it is best to just make it in the oven wrapped in foil until the last 15 minutes of so. Then remove the foil. Cook at about 350F IIRC. It comes out slightly crisped but still dripping with juice... Mmmmmm!

    BEER MARINADE
    1 can beer
    1/4 c. orange marmalade
    1/4 c. teriyaki sauce
    Dash of Tabasco
    2 to 5 tsp. sugar
    1/4 c. apple vinegar
4 to 7 cloves minced garlic
    4 to 5 scallions
Dash each of white & black pepper
1 to 3 tsp. ginger powder
1 to 3 tsp. mustard powder
Mix all ingredients in bowl and marinate meat overnight in refrigerator.

Go heavy on the sugar, garlic, scallions, mustard and ginger.

filet the jewfish, then add 1 tsp. butter

the secret ingredient is olive oil.

    finally grill in aluminum foil.

Well there are many styles to chicken sandwiches, and Chik-fil-a's style is a southern, pickle and mayo type chicken sandwich. That may not be to everyone's taste, but to me the biggest difference between Chik-fil-a and other fast food is the efficiency and great customer service of the staff. Somehow Chik-fil-a has cracked the code on training surly teens into smiling, polite help.

Right now, I'm liking the Popeye's chicken sandwich more than Chik-fil-a's but I know I'm going to have to deal with a long wait and grumpy staff.

I concur. When a chik fila opened in my town it was like chaos for weeks, lines out the door, etc. I got caught up in the excitement and couldn't wait to try it. So disappointed when I finally did. Seriously, what is the big deal?

Im not a fan of Chick fil-a ..it seems a little too garlicky to me. but I am awed by their customer service and efficient operation. My family loves their chicken though.

Oh well if they use a pickle, that's different!

It wasn't a matter of having problem with the style. The chicken was less than mediocre.

they are already unstoppable, but if they crack the code on making those lines go quicker it will be a miracle.

You missed half of what it is, it's the cleanliness and customer service. If you were not impressed by it, I have to question if you confused places.

I guess that isn't an issue where I live. Everyone is generally nice in stores around here. And most places are clean and nice. It was no different than most any other place.
