Lots of older people there now, like boomers here.

This strain appears to target the extremes of age.

People are packed even tighter in India, but its population is relatively young.

It is generally not a very good idea for public officials, especially the president to cause unwarranted fear and panic. Canceling any flights or quarantines of any sort would do more harm than good.

    WHO convenes emergency committee
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the World Health Organization, convened an emergency committee on Wednesday to determine whether this new virus constitutes a public health emergency.

"There was an excellent discussion during the committee today, but it was also clear that to proceed, we need more information," Ghebreyesus said during a press conference Wednesday. A full replay of the press conference is below.

    — World Health Organization (WHO) (@WHO) January 22, 2020
The emergency committee reconvened Thursday to continue to discuss the outbreak. On Thursday, the committee decided that it was still too early to declare a public health emergency.

"If WHO declares a public health emergency of international concern, it enables WHO greater powers for disease control using the International Health Regulations," MacIntyre said.

In the fall, an emergency committee met regarding the ebola virus epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The meeting outlined key strategies and commitments to strengthen and protect against the spread of the disease.

You don't look at livestock practices in the USA much, I guess.

Those Californians passed a law to require requiring checkins to a certain amount of space and have the ability to see sunlight, rather than being jammed in huge bunches of these birds tighter than a bread box.

The agricultural businesses has tried to stop the requirements but amazingly, did put it into effect.

It amazes me when so many complain other countries criticize the same (or worse) practices that the USA uses. Jamming huge numbers of poultry or livestock together with every daily antibiotics to gain a bit of more bulk is a recipe of mutated illnesses disaster. Much of the world has banned the daily antibiotic use, but the USA doesn't.

Maybe the people who fear China's practices may want to check out the USA. It's hard to do, though, more states have banned allowing anyone to videotape the animal practices.

Guess I need to google it, but concerning the California check ins, are they talking about checking in foreign travelers, illegal immigrants, or checking in farm animals? The check points have to have a certain size space and windows? Will this help stop Chinese viruses?

Foreign governments use those countries to test their biological weapons on human populations. Americans got pissed when they discovered that they were being used as test subjects so the government had to go to foreign countries to do their field testing.

So, you only want to quarantine Americans but no one else who comes from China? Is that a good plan?

Major airports including LAX are talking about screening passengers. I guess that would have to be ALL Asians. Besides Mainland China and 2 cases in the US, all other cases have been in Asian countries close to China. The US says they have a way to identify the virus. I don't know what the procedure is but if they begin screening at airports, I hope they do more than just ask passengers if they feel sick.

When pigs fly, animals arriving on flights from Asia might be screened and also asked for their autographs. :D

The screenings sound like a reasonable thing to do. Now, will the check-ins be done only during the day? Not sure why they have to see sunlight as the poster mentioned. Maybe ultraviolet rays destroy the virus and lessen the chance of spreading the virus to the checkin people?

No. For one thing, the Chinese intelligence agency, the Ministry of State Security, would KNOW if we had attempted anything like this. They're almost as good as the Russian FSB, and that is very, VERY good....

Historically, societies with a low number of females have tended to be more violent and aggressive.

Yeah I agree, but 48% is not really that bad and their number proves it.

It might seem reasonable but my guess is that the ACLU or the 'squad' would find it to be discriminatory if only Asians especially those who identify as checkin people are screened. You're right, you should Google it. I don't have any details. I do think we should not over react.
