It doesn’t work like that. It’s not like an overdue mortgage on a house. China has purchased United States Treasury securities, which pay off the principal and interest on the terms under which they were sold. China cannot demand prepayment of these debts; they are contractually fixed.

Might be good to study up a bit on macro economics.

Why is China expected to adhere to sanctions by the US?

    They aren't beholden to us.

They don't do what we tell them to, they are their own nation.

"Anyone doing business with Iran will NOT be doing business with the United States." -Trump

Sounds like it will ratchet up the trade war even more. How long before a trade war becomes a war?

Why in the world would we go to war over something like this?

This whole international sanctions / tariffs dance is interesting and getting a bit scary. Is the tail wagging the dog or is it the other way around? Does anyone have the knowledge, experience and intelligence to predict the outcome or are we at the mercy of the national supreme egos with questionable self control?

Iran, North Korea, Russia, and China are increasingly aggressive lately. China is not giving in to the pressure of tariffs and tension is building. I don't think it's enough to go to war, but it is getting more hostile.

That's only if the US continues to pay regular payments on the debt. Trump and his moronic cultists want to default on the debt. If we stop making payments on the debt, which is what the GOP were demanding when they shut down the government under Obama, and what Trump is demanding now, and has alot of support from the GOP in congress, and we default, China, and every other country who is owed money can legally take us to international court, and sue us. If that happens, our credit score would be downgraded severely, and the international courts have the legal authority to seize any and all publically owned US interests outside of the US in order to pay off the debt. They wouldn't get all the money owned, you never do in cases like this, but they would at least get some of it, and the US would be left in a situaation where we would never be able to get anyone to trust us again, and the US$ would basically be worthless, leaving China to lead the world financially and economically.

Huh? Where the heck did you pull that quote out of?

Dude, these blatantly untrue and made up stories have got to stop. When you make up completely false stories like this and then use it to argue an "evil strawman" are absolutely silly.

The closest thing Trump has ever said to this was in 2016 where he stated he wanted to "negotiate" rates with our bond holders. He immediately had a follow up interview where he "toned down" his rhetoric to:

" No, I don't want to renegotiate the bonds, but I think you can do discounting. I think depending on where interest rates are, I think you can buy back. I'm not talking about with a renegotiation, but you can buy back at discounts, you can do things at discounts. I'm not even suggesting that we don't borrow money at very low rates long term so we don't have to worry about when they come due."

I will give you a chance to source that and prove that I am wrong. But I follow economics very closely and this has NEVER been an open discussion on any platform.

Why completely make this up? I don't understand your tactics at all?

There are PLENTY of things Trump does that are easy to go after, when you make things like this up all it does is make the rumors of "TDS" look more and more true. Stick to the truth, made up stories like this ARE examples of "Fake News" and only make Trump and his supporters stronger.

    Lately?

They have been doing this for half a decade or more. This is not some "all the sudden" ramp up that happened because Trump came into office.

This is just another example of people completeyl making up false stories and then using them to argue their point.

It has got to stop, all it does is spread misinformation and false stories.
