Why are some treads on this forum so old? It is frustrating to see a tread and when it open it up it has no material value anymore.
Sometimes going back can give you an idea of what happened and why. I am for keeping the old threads. Or at least having an archive.
just click on 'new posts',... anything just replied to is current reading old posts & threads should always remain, especially with today's tech for storage it's a non-issue...
It’s been a while but if I remember correctly it was basically if you make a claim you have to prove it or retract it if you cannot. The mods have never stated why it was removed — to my knowledge. I would assume it required too much time on the mod staff to patrol and intervene.
I can see that being problematic. I've seen threads run for several pages, after the claim has been proven false, yet there the claimant remains; still claiming that claim was proven true several pages back.
more likely that it was fruitless and time consuming trying to prove something is false/fake/or not truthful... can't rely on sites such as 'snopes' which are owned/partnered/run by biased individuals, remember one shouldn't believe it just because it's on the internet, that includes sites like 'snopes'... besides, the site can't prosper from 'censorship', best to let it be and 'police' personal attacks & illegal content only
What we NEED, is a diary, for members, that is kept, so you can see all their OPs. Then, we can kill old threads after some time.
Threads in Latest US & World News as well as Current Events are moved to other forums if they are more than 1 month old. The staff is in discussions about members resurrecting necro threads. Staff members are not arbiters of the truth. It is up to the members to disprove a claim being made.
yes they are, almost anything that had 'you', 'you're' has been deleted and/or the offender being warned. not all of those are actually personal attacks although some do take it that way...
other xenforo sites have this: the member must check the box before they can reply... you should be capable of tracking those and then give a warning for repeat offenders... that is if the reply didn't offer any new insite to the ressurrected thread...
Thank you for that information. That is an add/on that the owner may consider if the resurrecting of necro threads becomes a problem here that puts an unnecessary strain on the staff. What we have been doing is politely telling less than a handful of members who resurrect these threads to please create a new thread with new relevant information. They have the option of linking the old thread to the new one. We have been hesitant to take any action other than moving threads or removing the post that resurrects the thread and speaking to the member to warn them its a problem and to please stop. The goal of moderation here is to guide members. Once it becomes apparent guiding is gone by the wayside, a procedure will be in place to handle the situation in a consistent manner to be fair. This is what the staff is discussing now.
you're welcome... have you discussed the possibility of making the necro (yeah, i went there drluggit ) threads 'read only' that way no one can resurrect them ? i can see the issue because so many threads get bombarded with replies very quickly... even in the newest of threads, if i see many pages, i just read the op and first page, then offer my input, i rarely if ever read every page, whew! that take too much investment
all the 'ops' are listed on the main page of the forums, there is no need to further sort them by 'thread starter'... there are 30, 000+ members, do you really want to wade through that list? EDIT: nevermind, i see where you're going here, you want to create a bubble for yourself and only view certain members ops... too bad, ain't gonna happen...
lol It really does become an investment. No we haven't discussed that option. I linked this thread to the staff discussion. So we will be discussing your suggestions and other suggestions in this thread.
