Your politics? Doesn't matter. If you tuned in to get info about the Democratic Party wannabes, you got a big helping of tv trash.

If began with the undignified intro for each Presidential wannabe "star" and went to the yo mama questions from the moderators.

"Senator Harris, former Vice President Biden says your healthcare plan is a joke and so is your candidacy. What you have to say to the Vice President?"

So, then we're off to the races with mud slinging! The CNN idiots were no doubt rubbing their hands over the conflict.

    Bring on the midgets!

Mud wrestling would actually be better to watch. These debates are boring as hell.

I looked over at my wife who doesn't like that sh*t and I knew she was going to change the channel. (She did.)

Some of the CNN commentators were even saying the Democrats spent too much time attacking each other--after, of course, CNN did everything it could to get them to do just that. Trump turned the GOP debates in 2015-16 into a Gong Show and I think CNN hoped to get high ratings, too.

I saw some interesting comments on tv about the debates from average folks. More than a few of them knew exactly what CNN was doing. Oops.

I find them just depressing with each one trying to out-Karl Marx the other.

The squeeze is on workers and has been for forty years with median wages just 4% higher than they were in 1979.

Real wages for men are about 5% lower than they were in 1979.

The economy has grown during this time.

We have a structural problem Democrats are trying to solve with government spending programs and Republicans are trying to solve with government spending cuts.

The solution to the problem is making sure workers get a larger cut of the pie. If we do that, we won't need Democratic Party government handouts or Republican cuts to vital government programs--infrastructure, education, job training, etc.

How does the government make sure workers get a larger cut of the pie? How about the workers making sure they get a larger cut of the pie, like many do via hard work, education, and experience.

The solution is to restrict the labor supply. The stagnation of wages was first caused by women entering the labor force and continued with illegal immigrants doing the same.

For some reason both these calamities are cheered by liberals.

I had to laugh when the leftist Democratic candidates began referring to facts presented by the more moderate candidates as 'Republican talking points."

Several ways are possible. Raise corporations taxes, a solution that works better for businesses serving our domestic market than exporters. Raise individual taxes on higher incomes. Trump ran for office saying he wouldn't cut taxes for rich people, then proceeded to give 85% of the personal tax cuts to people making $400,000 per year. Get rid of laws making it more difficult for workers to join unions. I have trouble with unions on some levels because our unions tend to follow the confrontational British model, not the more cooperative model of some European countries. Raise the minimum wage. It will put some people out of work, but it would tend to raise overall wage levels. Implement a negative income tax.
You don't think most workers became lazy, do you?

Why is equal opportunity for women and minorities (not illegals) a calamity?

The stagnation was also impacted by a huge expansion of the world labor supply by countries like China and India making it possible for business to produce goods in those countries, and by automation.

I found it tawdry. CNN made a gladiator-inspired spectacle out of what should have been a dignified and open discussion on the issues we the people think are important. The candidates who eagerly attached themselves to that mud-slinging debate style did themselves no favors. There were only a few who refused the bait.

Shame on CNN, and shame on those candidates who eagerly went on the attack. Debate winner: Donald Trump.

Have you asked yourself why women and immigrants joined the labor force?

Because feminism led to so many of the social ills we now see. Stagnant wages, weakening of the family among others.

I was an engineer. I dealt in the trade offs of the different ways to solve problems. Liberals don't think that way. They conceive of some ideal and seek to achieve it without regard to the harms it may cause. [/quote]

And so we see the trade-offs associated with the ideal of "free trade."

Of course. Liberals convinced women they ought to go out and get a job. They are unhappier as a result, family life suffered and wages stagnated.

Immigrants joined the labor force because capital wanted to keep wages low.

Do you really believe that? You must be a single male. Just a guess.

Please tell us how many American families can live on a single income, vs how many MUST have more than one breadwinner just to get by. Personally, I would have loved to have had the wherewithall to stay home and not go to work day after day, year after year, while my kids were young.

You can thank woman's lib for being forced to work. Before that most women could stay home with their children. By luring women into the workforce wages stagnated and inflation cut real take home pay so nowadays women are forced to work.

My mother didn't work. None of my friend's moms worked. None of the mothers on TV or in movies worked.

“We are busily unmaking one of the proudest social achievements in the nineteenth century, which was to take married women out of the workforce so they could devote themselves to family and children.” – Peter Drucker, American social analyst.

While I agree women progressing has put downside pressure of men's wages, I can't bring myself to turn my back on discrimination against women. Caveat: my mother was mayor of a city, my wife was a school teacher and my equal partner, and my daughter is a commercial banker.
So was my father. Designed aircraft for Northrop Grumman.
Most people, liberal to conservative, don't see tradeoffs and don't problem solve.

Women working is only part of the impact on men's wages, maybe not even a large part.
My mother wouldn't have been happy at home. She just wasn't built that way. My folks celebrated 56 years together.

On the contrary, liberated women were never the problem. That's just a meme adhered to by every misogynist in America. I had to work so we could pay for things like housing and food. Like the people said to George HW Bush during the 1992 presidential campaign, "It's the economy, stupid."
