The first home owners deposit guarantee for the lucky first ten thousand just now.
Being steered by the Murdoch press and the religious right.
Reluctance to have a royal commission into institutional child abuse, ditto for the the criminal behaviour of banks.
Allowing Tony Abbott to continue to being a disruptive force in the government.

These are things which Menzies wouldn’t have countenanced I believe.

I noted the night of the election, all the pundits stumbling and bumbling throughout the their commentary after clearly trying to protect their positions from their comments on the outcome of the election.

I watched ABC insiders (possibly the most left leaning ABC program out) trying to tell the people why they voted the way they did. On this forum we have the sour grapes of people blaming the voters for climate change and coal mines and so on.

I think the thing that we can take from this result is the polls are not gospel. The parties need to listen to the people and not simply try treat them like fools. Clearly these pundits have zero credibility, talking down to people trying to tell them just what to thinking…

Time to leave the sour grapes and start talking about the future policy…

Labor are obviously losing the working class vote to One Nation in QLD. While ever they’re not focussing on their bread and butter constituents, those constituents will race off to cast their vote on emotive social issues, if that is the only vote that seems worthwhile.
The Adani issue will be a huge dilemma for Albanese due to the left factions stance!

I'm not all that keen on royal commissions on principle. Pass the laws and use the ordinary judicial/LE process to punish those in violation. Endless, open ended legislative investigations aren't in my ballpark.

I do not see what is wrong with the normal LE/judicial process. We have many agencies tasked with doing all of the things these commissions do.

The financial services overseer failed miserably as the banks have been cheating us for years and nothing was done.

"short term employment" which may be the only thing between these non-Victorian DEVILS and welfare dependence and/or possible homeless children. It is their kids' immediate future.

Try being a Disgusting Deplorable Devil for a year or two, and see how you balance that parental panic. Remove your evidentally enormous privilege, and see how much of your panic you can spare for the longer view.

Jeezuss H Christos .. no wonder the damned LNP won.

ON has a growing fan base all over the country (Vicfornia excluded, obviously). Gen Z is even interested, so this growth has little to do with the antiquated idea of the old white male.

The royal commission points out the failings of our processes and procedures.

Yep, unexpected. Except by those with “seeing into the future” abilities.

Shouldn't we just design our institutions and the dozens of agencies tasked with doing these things properly, instead of band aiding it with legislative investigstions?

Yes, they have evolved past virtue signalling and berserker ideology. Hence their refusal to be religioused into unquestioning demonisation.

Not at all. I'm only one person, and I know quite a few who saw it coming.

I'd go so far as to suggest that only way you couldn't have seen it coming, is if you live in an opaque bubble.

I think that is the one thing that was discovered from the Royal commission into finance. The complete lack of ability or willingness to investigate and prosecute the failures and illegal activity.

So we have government introducing more regulation and legislation which the same current agencies designed to police this area, will fumble about and basically convolute investigation and prosecution to a point where it becomes redundant. Then when people finally get enough of being screwed, another $400m spent on a Royal commission to tell everybody what they already know…

Would be better if we just made people do the job they are paid for…
