It's very rigid - the process I mean - and basically not much use as a form of inquiry. Because it's an adversarial process it focuses on everyone obeying the rules so that procedural truth can be found. It's bloody hopeless. A royal commission is much more inquisitorial and therefore more effective at producing facts.

Our criminal law is a very blunt instrument and entirely unsuited to the job of managing white collar crime. No I don't have the answer but I know the current approach - as you rightly point out - is useless.

Anyway the rich bastards never get sorted out by a system that is designed to protect them.

Okay, well that's weird. Do you not mix with anyone who votes Right, like .. at all? Because plenty of 'em knew it was a shoe in. Generally speaking, the more 'Progressive' the Left becomes, the more confident they are of winning. Seems with good reason. Trump, Brexit, EU, Australia .. all recent election results demonstrating their confidence is not misplaced.

I guess they know what the people want, better than those who think they know what the people want :)

A friend of mine does. She used to favour Derryn Hinch but has changed her mind and liked Christian Porter. She listens to 3AW on the wireless and watches weirdos on YouTube.
My brother is very conservative but he didn’t expect it.( This is second hand because we don’t talk politics any more. It gets a bit heated).
OP for the reps. She didn’t expect the Libs to get back in.

Interesting! And good to know you're not afflicted with Melbournitis (the inability of Melbers to tolerate anyone who doesn't think exactly as they do).

This gave me a nasty shock at first!

Chinese warships arrive in Sydney as Beijing warns of South China Sea resolve

    By defence reporter Andrew Greene

    Key points:
    • The Government says the arrival of the Chinese warships is not a surprise, despite not being publicly announced
    • The PM says the vessels are on their way back from operations in the Middle East
    • The visit comes just hours after the Chinese Defence Minister spoke about the army's commitment to "face up to troubles"

Did we just have an election...did we just vote the scum back in again...
I suppose theres not much difference between a dirtbag and a moron....
I think voters need to pass an IQ test before they are permitted to vote...
considering most voters only have an IQ of about 40...but then again we Australians
have been dumbed down for decades....
Who's shout is it...who's gunna win the footie tonite...she'll be right mate....
Did you see MKR last nite….pft...

The question nobody appears to be asking is what if someone in the Australian military or a well armed over patriotic citizen had spotted those vessels entering the Sydney heads and taken a shot at them? We know Canberra is in the hands of fools but this is suicidal even for them.

I agree...its amusing that the Federal Government of Australia announces that they knew all about this visit and it was just a reciprocal visit by China...bullshit...it was a show of strength by China...
and they wasn't just on the way back from the ME Gulf of Aden !!!...the fools in Canberra just attempt to dumb us down a little more...

80 is less terrible than 40, like poor Rita Hayworth.
I agree it’s a horrible disease and you wouldn’t wish it on your worst enemy.

I recently confessed to an old friend I thought I was detecting early signs of dementia. His instant response was “How would they know, you’ve always been demented” Nice.

Back with the demeted Federal Gov’t and those Chinese ships. Another madness Canberra has been guilty of for far too long, and I include Labour in this, is the total lack of any defence for Pine Gap. Given this facility will be the first target China or Russia will attemp to take out in any full scale war why hasn’t Australia insisted the US provide state of the art anti-missile defences for Pine Gap? However, given the advances Russia and China are making in hypersonic missiles, whose speed willl probably mean by the time they can be detected it’s too late, an effective defence may be impossible. EIther way we’ll probably get caught with our pants down.

And that right there, is why the Coalition won.

Keep it up, kids. Keep sneering at the peasants.

I hope youre not suggesting that the peasants of Australia are intellectual..
People, when asked in the street how they were going to vote were lucky to string
two sentences together....something like "I think Ill vote for xxx...he's a good bloke..."
Ask the average Australian peasant how to spell their own name and all youll get
    is an extremely long pause.....

I'm suggesting that not everyone spends their alloted span angsting like Melbournians. And that that is not in any way, shape, or form, an indicator of intelligence. I would submit that thinking intelligence comes in only one flavour (and that flavour is your own especial favourite ... natch!) is itself an indicator of lack.

All Im suggesting is that the average voter in Australia knows very little about politics, current affairs, the economy etc etc...and if a voter is under 25, being a millennial, they'd be flat out knowing how to tie
    their own shoelaces...note I said "average"....some do...

    Yes, and?

The 'average voter' is probably too busy earning his/her keep and making sure the kids are educated. Which is a good deal more useful to Australia (and the economy!) than a dozen under-employed protesters with Arts degrees.

No...the average Australian voter is too busy watching the footie and drinking piss and belting his missus
when she chips him for losing more of the housekeeping betting on the first try scorer....
In other words...nothing to do with under employed protesters with Arts degrees....
A lot of Australian voters are yobbos who cant decide who to vote for so they vote for the "good bloke"..
"Making sure the kids are educated..." youre kidding aren't you....most parents these days wouldn't
know how to spell "algebra"....let alone know anything about it....
