Brigham Young University is 9-0 this season with wins over Houston (big) and Boise State (ranked 21 at the time). Cincinnati has wins over Houston (not so big) and UCF (unranked at the time). The other games both played are of equal difficulty. In the AP and Coaches Polls, Cincinnati is #7 and BYU is #8. Yet, in the newly released CFP poll that counts, Cincinnati remains #7 and BYU is pushed back to #14. This is a big deal because the top 12 are in the big bowl games that pay out millions of dollars while the rest are in bowl games that pay out hundreds of thousands of dollars. And, in a COVID19 season where schools are losing millions of dollars of revenue, this is a big deal.

The reason is clear. Not the strength of schedule. Not the obvious strength of the teams. It's because BYU is a religious school and owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Most members of the Church are conservatives voting for Trump as well. Not only is this bigotry it's pure racism as well even thought a large number of coaches and players are men of color (Black, Polynesian, Hispanic and Oriental) Both Cincinnati and BYU have played weak schedules. But, the bigots in the decision room should be sued. The millions of dollars lost by BYU is substantial and the bigotry shown in football and basketball towards BYU is substantial. There is no need in sports for racism and bigotry.

It is definitely a strength of schedule issue.

They could still sneak into the Top 12 (and a NY6 Bid).

That said, they were ranked lower than some had predicted.

You must be new to CFB. Strength of schedule is 59 by 64% in odds for rankings as well as consistency on O/D.

The committee doesn't hate mormons and black people. They just adhere to a very easy stat line. This thread is a joke, right?

The strength of schedules are that much different with Cincinnati and BYU. BYU has thrashed the teams they played. This season is a bit different as well. See, like the Democrats changed the election rules in mid stream, so have the CFP. They have changed the rule about how many games a team has to play and win because of the pandemic as well. No, we can't use the same criteria this year. Also, most national sports analysts also agree that BYU should be ranked high right behind Cincinnati. The truth is, the people voting have not seen one game BYU played. But, that isn't the real reason. The real reason is corruption because of money.

Teams are hurting financially because of the pandemic. So, these people are tied to conferences and want to see conference teams in the top 6 bowls because they will still bring in millions of dollars to conferences and teams. If Notre Dame wasn't allowed to play with a league this year (corruption) then they would be squeezed out as well because they are a religious school as well. You can't say religious bigotry doesn't exist and is systemic while saying racism exists and is systemic.

Dude (or dudette), the NCAA is the WORST organization in sports. They punish players for coaches mistakes, suspend bowl games for coaching/cheating...the NCAA should be torn apart. This shouldn't be news to you.

It has nothing to do with religion LOL! It's the fact that the NCAA is picking favorites in terms of the NY6 hopefuls. Stop trying to pull the religion and race card when there isn't one to pull.

You're looking to pull the race and religion card when it's completely irrelevant. If racism was so bad in the CFB and transitioning to the NFL, how are all the best players and highest draft picks religious black people?

No one buys your race cards, bro.

My card isn't racism. Your comprehension is faulty. The obvious is religious bigotry.

It's obvious in your mind. Not in the mind of rational people who use statistics and strength of schedule.

How does BYU's strength of schedule out-weigh all of the others in the top 6? I'd love to hear the logic behind that

Let's move the goal posts. Who said anything about the top 6? And, who said anything about strength of schedule. The point is, the AP, Coaches polls and hundreds of sports analysts have come out ripping on the CFP for dropping BYU but not Cincinnati. Both SOS were mostly even, 57 and 62. Yet, Cincinnati remained at #7 but BYU fell from #8 to #14. Cincinnati beat UCF at UCF while BYU beat Boise at Boise by a much wider margin, easily. Both beat Houston handily. Only one explanation, religious bigotry.

Because of the strength of schedule, points score on offense and points allowed on defense. It's not just one of those factors, it's all 3.

It's a VERY basic algorithm. The same way ESPN does NFL power rankings.

This "religious bigotry" story you have made up in your mind is quite funny though!

I already debunked your strength of schedule. There is no significant difference. 57 to 62. Both correlate closely with each other. And, the point differential is in favor of BYU. And, BYU has a Heisman Trophy candidate as well and Cincinnati doesn't. So, why the significant drop from #8 to #14? Religious bigotry.

Apparently you didn't read my post. Strength of schedule is ONE of THREE factors for rankings.

Can you name the other two I mentioned above?

I take it you're mormon given your outrage? You need to look at the facts and stop this embarrassing argument you're trying to make.

BYU is a head of Cincinnati and others in front of them with respect to points scored and points allowed on defense. BYU is ranked 5th in both categories. Now what genius?

BYU is ranked 5th in points against and points allowed? Can you cite that?

Oh I understand your complaint. This is the EXACT same complaint UCF had back when they went 12-0. The reason Florida and Clemson are further ahead is points scored vs. ranked opponents and points allowed vs. ranked opponents. Ranked points vs. unranked points carry more weight.

Cincinnati is not close to BYU in those situations too. Yet, Cincinnati stayed at #7 while BYU fell 6 placed from #8 to #14. So, you still haven't proved your point. I have.

No you haven't I asked for your sources that place BYU ahead in all 3 categories. You failed to do so. You're just stating your feelings.

    https://www.espn.com/college-football/stats/_/view/team

    Current Strength of schedule: BYU = #71 Cincinnati = #64 (https://www.teamrankings.com/college-football/ranking/schedule-strength-by-other)

    Points score on offense: BYU = 47.6 (#4) Cincinnati = 40.9 (#10)

    Points allowed on defense: BYU = 13.9 (#4) Cincinnati = 15.0 (#5)

    Power Index Rating: BYU = #11 Cincinnati = #12

As you see, there isn't much difference between #71 and #64 with strength of schedule. This is different that I stated because what I stated was a couple of weeks ago. Both have dropped. Power Index shows BYU above Cincinnati as well with the other 2 categories you demanded. We could also add point differential because the CFP also you that: BYU = 33.7 Cincinnati = 35.9 BYU wins again!

So, ask yourself, why did Cincinnati really retain the #7 position by the AP and Coaches Polls while BYU Lost 6 position from #8 to #14? There is no logical reason. The reason has to be prejudice. Is it just because BYU is in the West and Cincinnati is in the East? Is it because BYU is an independent? Or is it because BYU is a Church School of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Are you completely blind? Did you see what I said about the strength of schedule? There is NO significant difference between #71 and #64. It's a completely bogus reason. Also, you stated too that you have to equally use the 3 criteria and not do what you did. Cherry picked. How bad and low can you go? Even the Power Indeces are so close that there is no statistical difference between the two teams. Yet, the drop from #8 to #14 is a huge statistical difference change. Let me just use a simple statistic of percent change. The percent change from #64 to #71 is 10.94% That's it! But, the change from #8 to #14 is 75%!!! That's a huge increase!!! 75% versus 11%, gee is there a problem Houston? So, is it location, independence or just religious bigotry? Or, a little of each?

    Per your link:

+1.7 yards per carry for cinci over BYU
+2 batted passes per game for cinci over BYU
+3.5 QB's hurried on defense for cinci over BYU
+1.1 blitz success for cinci over BYU

You shouldn't quote ESPN that also links to the actual data from Fantasy Pro's. It makes you lose your own argument. Now I agree EVEN MORE that BYU is overrated. Thank you for the source :)
