"The group, which includes two former Obama energy officials and staff from the nonprofit Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, this week unveiled a road map of policies that would allow “the next administration and Congress to hit the ground running” on clean-tech development.

The document cites the International Energy Agency’s July warning that of the 46 energy technologies needed to forestall catastrophic climate change, only six are being developed at sufficient speed.

Immediately after taking office, the next president should issue an order establishing a “national energy innovation mission” and organizing an interagency task force to implement it, the group argued.

“There is no doubt that it is technically and economically possible to reach the zero-carbon economy, which we need by 2050; and zero must mean zero, not a plan which relies on the permanent and large-scale use of ‘offsets,’” Energy Transitions Commission co-chair Adair Turner said. “But action in the next decade is crucial—otherwise it will be too late.”

I think this is all good stuff, and totally agree with it all, but technology is just a band-aid. The real issue that needs to be fixed is global overpopulation, and get rid of neo-classical economics in favor of a biophysical economic model. We are well into overshoot on this planet, and have been since the 1980s. Our time is limited until we hit decline or even collapse without massive changes. But yes, researching and funding for all these technologies is definitely a step in the right direction.

What are they going to do about the rest of the world that doesn't have zero emissions? Invade them and force them?

    lol

    No

    Out invent them!

Why do you think America rose to prominence in the industrial revolution? It out invented most countries. We are seeing a change now. China in particular slowed its coal fired power plant buildings in favour of renewables - which are replacing coal because they are cheaper

Takes a very long time for technology to advance around the world.

Won't be happening in ten years, that is just fantasy. I suggest you put the effort into preparing for climate change instead of thinking you can slow it down.

This is why we should have started twenty years ago. A certain American presidential candidate had a clear vision that would have brought the world forward but an SC decision had him lose. Meantime look at the progress over the last twenty years with electric alone. Electric is going to replace the city car

Not in enough time to matter.

Regardless, the climate is going to heat up by itself and all you folks want to do is delay it so some other generation has to deal with it. Sea level is going to rise 6 ft. or more and it's unavoidable but not a single lefty wants to prepare for it. You should be building sea walls and moving coastal cities back because I tell you what, that fancy electric car had better be a boat cause all the roads will be flooded.

Sorry did the law of conservation of energy just pass you by?

    Obviously

Go look it up and you will (hopefully) understand why the climate cannot “heat up” by itself and why seas don’t rise by themselves etc etc. while you are at it work out the cost of moving billions of people and infrastructure

New York alone will cost the American taxpayer billions

It has before. And you are going to have to do something with the cities because they are going to flood, no scientist denies this.

And there was always a “driver”

    what is driving THIS change?

What drove it before humans were here that suddenly no longer happens?
