    As I said, Comments?

Perhaps posters have any comments on the disparity between the extremes in these photographs.
Do you think it's reasonable to allow the 'larger' children to grow so fat, more so while there are kids losing their lives to hunger?

Then consider extreme malnutrition in many countries.

Do you think the richer countries should help?
Would a tiny part of the US defence budget be better used to rid the world of poverty?
Should the fat kids' parents be punished for child abuse?

I already want to see defense-related spending in the United States halved, and support a very large increase in the amount of aid being provided abroad. That we live in a world where people still die for lack of food, clean water, and so forth seems unconscionable to me. Not enough has been done to encourage human development around the world, and my views on what to do are of a social democratic perspective.

The governments of advanced, affluent countries should thoroughly regulate and rein in the excesses of transnational corporations. These governments also ought to work with foreign leaders and NGOs - going into developing countries to charitably fund new infrastructure projects, alleviate some of the hardships suffered by disadvantaged people, and encourage a combination of prudent resource management, economic diversification, and policies which temporarily shelter vulnerable, fledgling industries of critical strategic importance from foreign competition, so as to foster sustainable growth. I would also be fine with forgiving some of the debts we are owed if the sums in question are small enough, seeing as development is easily stifled if a government tries to repay what they were loaned decades earlier by heavily burdening their people with taxes (IMF loans are oft both a blessing and curse).

Also, given the long-term health risks and the potential burden that important social programs could be saddled with as a result of overeating and the consequences thereof, I do think that something ought to be done in the States about childhood obesity. Alas, until I learn some more about how to address the problem and what kind of options are available, I am rather reluctant to propose any particular course of action.

What about you? What are your thoughts on the matter?

Do you think the richer countries should help? Yes absolutely.
Would a tiny part of the US defence budget be better used to rid the world of poverty? 20 billion from it at least.
Should the fat kids' parents be punished for child abuse? Yes

Further there was the millennium project in the UN to try to do something about the 1/2 of the world who lives on $2 a day or less. We never hear much about that and we should and do more to support it.

    My idea is simple.
The US gets all the cash it spends on messing about in other people's countries, spends a chunk on care for Americans and the rest on helping the rest of the world.
People don't hate the US, just its foreign policy and no one except a few morons would hate you for feeding starving people.
Those few fools would be put down by the majority.

Many of the African Wars are manipulated by Corerperate ..educate ourselves and as many others as we are able and help the 'Third World' flourish. Naive ? Probably.
The NGOs are often just big business too.

The genocide and or displacement of indigionous peoples for the Land they live on instead of trading with them honestly is the problem ..nothing else.
