I was watching telly now and found that some old man was talking about people getting an education and no jobs. the bottom line is competence - if they do not know what to do they cannot even do it to a basic level, can they?

So, how do we improve competence of new employees? this would be where they either just stand there and pretend to be working, like i did for the first few days when i started working, or they actually get involved, yes?

I would say the best way to know what to do is to be told what to do. if you had a company where everybody just did what they learned in college or high school, then there would be a product, but what sort of product would be pretty damn weird. could anybody sell that rubbish? think about it, what sort of garbage would they make left to their own devices?

I would say the best way to prepare for a job, is, in the interview, they take you round the business and ask you what the prospective employee thinks they are doing, and, why? that or they would need to prepare a project about the business for the interview, of course.

I think the life orientation of some countries offered in school would help no end by asking people to go on outings to places of work where they could ask questions of the staff, but, honestly, most kids will bunk it and abuse the chances they are given.
