Concealed Carry in most of NY State is allowed with a background check and close-quarter training. I believe this is a good example for the rest of the country, and for a nation-wide CCW program. I would fully support CCW for NYC and around the country, if it includes a 2-day training course in the law and responsibility of concealed-carry and use of a firearm, plus an exam in use of firearms in close quarter high-stress situations. Hunting permit requires a two-day course, so why not concealled carry? Permit should be low cost, but the shooting exam should be renewed every ten years, just to make sure folks still have the mental and physical ability to shoot straight and not endanger themselves and the public. So yes, if you are a law-abiding citizen, can pass a written exam and a field test, you should be allowed to conceal carry in NYC and the rest of the USA.
the problem is-gun banners and others who don't like honest people being armed will make it more and more expensive anything short of SHALL ISSUE should be banned NO ARBITRARY ability at all. None of the "need" requirements that we have now. I also would like laws passed that if someone is denied a permit and there is no objective reason to do so, the denier is subject to a 10,000 fine that he has to pay personally

I agree. And with my experience as an Instructor, I would rather go with established courses long proved by others.
no, I trust NY's CCW system to weed out folks who should not be allowed to conceal carry. my co-worker just got his CCW.
the current system is unconstitutional and favors the rich. It will weed out lots of people who aren't wealthy or connected. WE need to start really really being harsh on bureaucrats who deny people their rights.
I actually agree with you for.the most part, but I would make.some changes. 50 state FBI background check. A free course administered by the issuing county police and/or district attorney covering rights and responsibilities for concealed carry and the legal use of deadly force. Basic marksmanship qualification Refresher course on the law every renewal. I would.also like to see federally ensured reciprocity from state to state.
Even law enforcement officers are not held to the standard that is being proposed regarding firearms qualification.
We've seen lots of anti gun stuff from people who want to change the standards. what we need is SHALL ISSUE a day or less course a relevant shooting test-7 yards or so
we need to make sure that concealed-carry permit holders know and understand the law about who they can and cannot shoot. lots of folks think you can shoot someone running away with stolen property, but that's illegal in NY
It isn't rocket science. We were taught the four rules of gun safety as kids before the liberal hysteria. All guns are always loaded. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

Q: Have you ever owned a gun? A: Yes or No, if yes be ready to supply details.

once I raised the NYC nonsense I see we received no more responses from Ron. the NYS permits were once easy to get. I had one as a graduate student. IN the City-not so much. I had friends who said that it was near impossible. NYC tried to claim NYS licenses weren't good in NYC. in most states, such an attitude would get massive slap down from the state supreme court or the governor
I was friends with all the cops. in fact when I was a grad student, I had a beard, longer hair, and I was a professional squash player. My best friend was a cop. We'd go to bars and shoot pool. Everyone figured I was a Narc or DEA.
vets don't get special privileges when it comes to CCW. ones who want to disrespect the second amendment should be jailed for violating their oath
