In an embarssing defeat Congress crushes Trump's veto of the National Defense Bill. The year of 2021 starts out with ingress handingTrump a well deserved defeat but more importantly Congress voted for America.

Will Trump come to his senses and save himself further embarrassment by resigning and letting Pense finish the last 19 days ?

Or will toddlervlike nature push him tone, barrass himself and our country until 11:59AM of Jan 20 2021

Watching Leftists cheer on massive Defense Spending is priceless. They will basically hold any opinion the MSM tells them to.

    :roflol:

Especially, in light of Trump's Policy of not running up the debt and being a serious Deficit Hawk?

    Got it.:bored:

Anyway, back to the OP, the Veto Override was completely expected.

I wish trump was more on top of the financial side of conservatism but he ran his companies on leveraged debt so we had a good idea that wasnt likely.

Luckily he still has several very good accomplishments and I'm happy for him vetoing the bill and doing what was possible withing his power.

So you think he vetoed it because of the cost?

FFS. The stimulus is part of the defense bill. Geee, I wonder what that is ;)

And those stimulus checks are only $600 cause thats what McConnell would let them have.......that will be hard to overcome for repubs.......oh wait, no it wont, they will all claim they got $2000 a piece.

Exactly. His supporters dont even know what they are voting for, unless its just something to piss off dems. They have been very quite on the debt, but I bet that changes at 12:10 on Jan 20th ;)

This is not the question you should be asking.

Firts, Trump vetoed the budget because he claims that it benefits China and social networks, which he considers to be opposed to him.

He has never complained that the budget would increase the debt too much.

    Never.

Besides, coming from Trump, that would have been a first.

Secondly, I understand the cult of personality that surrounds Trump and your undying devotion to him, but here his veto has just been overturned with an absolute majority.

When such a large number of elected officials oppose the will of a President, it may be because he's wrong.

I know this is something inconceivable to you Trumpsters, but you should think about it anyway.

Actually you don't know what you are talking about when you call everyone "Trumpsters" with a blanket when others point out the complete hypocrisy of the Left.

I have been against Trump's Spending since year 1. I have spoken out against the runaway Defense Spending forever. I continue here and it's hilarious to watch Leftists oppose cutting Defense spending.

You are repeating here pure Trumpian propaganda when you know absolutely nothing about what is in this budget.

Trump would say that this budget is used to finance paedophile networks in Viet Nam and you would take his word for it without even checking.

To overthrow a presidential veto, you need an absolute majority of votes, a bi-partisan vote.

Which means that an overwhelming majority of elected Republicans also voted against Trump.

I know that your devotion to Trump prevents you from seeing anything but treason, but when 77% of the House and 85% of the Senate vote against you, maybe the President is wrong.

Lots of presidents have had vetoes overturned so I'm not sure why the left thinks this is a big deal.

Wanna know how many FDR had and how much of his legislation was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

Presidents will sometimes veto something they are assured will be overridden simply to have it on their record as something they were against even if they weren't. This bill js doing many wrong things at the wrong time and if something blows up related to it then Trump can say he tried to stop it.

It's called taking a safety in politics. It's when you know the outcome of some political circumstance ahead of time so you take a position based on what you think helps you personally rather then making what you think is the right choice.

Sine the person's opinion will not change the outcome it is considered a safe or free gamble.

Inevitable. I had anticipated this: at first they were all afraid of him... some of them will even vote for not counting the electoral college votes although it's futile (by the way they just lost the lawsuit that intended to empower Pence to overturn the election; a Trump-nominated judge threw it out). But little by little, as he leaves the White House and his one-trick pony act becomes old ("Rigged! Stolen election! I was robbed!!!), and as he gets entangled in several lawsuits now that he will lack presidential immunity, little by little his influence will fade, and 2024 hopefuls within the GOP will start to revise history and undermine him, first timidly and behind closed doors, and then more openly.

Just taking a guess here, but it's because it's the first veto overturned during his presidency and it came within the last month of him being in office. And probably more importantly, it's a sign of the crumbling of the up-till-then solid support for Trump from Republicans in Congress. Kids in cages? Trying to strongarm a foreign leader to dig up dirt on political opponents? Impeachment? Tax breaks for the uber-wealthy? All good. They were in lockstep with that. But the thought of giving Americans who are really suffering financially an extra $1400 was a step too far and they had to put a stop to that. Either that or they're starting to realise the TrumpTrain has reached the end of the line, they still have reasonably long political careers ahead of them and they'll cast their lot where they think it'll advantage them best.

They ( Donnie's supporters) ignore the social media liability and Statues of Traitors reasons that were the only reason Donnie vetoed the bill.
Obviously cost containment has never been a desire of the Trumpocity.

I wish that were true, but I think there is still a great deal of fear in some - mostly because they want his base for their own runs in 2024.

Hey it is good that there still are those like you who see the light of hope that the real Republican will still emerge as the stench of Trumpism fades. I have only guarded hope but will hope be enough.

    That's silly. I haven't cheered anything.
You realize, spending isn't what trump vetod for. He was all for the spending.

So you voted Biden? Or 3rd party?
If you voted for trump, you voted for big spending.

You aren't getting it. It's not about the money. As has been explained. Never has been about the money.
trump, dollar wise, is the biggest spender in US history for a president. But then again, each new president gets that label, since the size of gdp keeps increasing.

It's a bit difficult to understand how a big increase in US military spending benefits China! So Congress took care of business.

    Trump did do this, though:
NYSE To Delist Three Chinese Telecom Giants On Trump Executive Order.

Lying Outlaw Slaver Bastards of Beijing get the boot!

Trump's order bars U.S. investments in Chinese companies that are owned or controlled by the Chinese military. The injunction deters U.S. investors from buying shares of the Chinese companies designated by the Pentagon as backed by the military forces.
