There's one problem with that. I've never took a drop in my life except the minuscule amount found in cough medicine.
I agree, here in Portland Oregon when a Felon is caught and arrested for illegally possession and carry of a handgun by a Felon, the charge is often reduced to a misdemeanor, and treated as no big woof.. So Felons see it as a part of doing Business, they might think twice if it was an Instant 5 year sentence in Prison.
There isn't much of a topic to discuss. There are close to 15 million people in the US that have CCW's. That group of people are more law abiding than the general public by orders of magnitude. Only 6% of murders are committed by someone legally in possession of a firearm. The others have been stolen, straw purchased, or obtained by some other illegal method. Those two things alone blow the theory that gun owners have a higher propensity of substance abuse or violence. Having a gun and owning a gun are not the same thing. Anecdotally, I bought a 12 pack of Blue Moon seasonal beer in Oct and I have 4 still sitting in the fridge. Your "study" is ridiculous.
Exactly. They want to let the violent people stay out of jail and think they can keep pointy objects away from them.
Many criminals that graduate to using a gun offensively in crimes show a history of ever increasing levels of violence. Those that use a weapon offensively should be given significant addition time behind bars.
Or get shot during the Commission of a crime and get new permanent accommodations in a coffin in the cemetery.
15 million people is a lot less than the total number of gun owners. If the police really recorded accurate data about crime committed by people with concealed carry permits then why would the VPC have to get most of its information about such crime from the media? What we do know is that people who admit to owning guns in surveys also are much more likely to admit to binge drinking.
If someone called me asking about guns I'd lie about everything too. This study proves nothing. What we do know about gun crime, and crime in general, is that it is performed by criminals with an illegally acquired weapon. That's not a "gun owner", that's a criminal. Not a huge surprise that criminals drink heavily then go driving around. That's kinda what makes them criminals. In no way does this study reflect on your average gun owner, so believe what you want.
That's not the point. You stated no one in government believes in legalizing heroin. You have been proven blantently wrong on that point.
Texas keeps data on CHL holder convictions. CHL holders are almost 20 times less likely to commit a crime than the average Texan.
