Convoys to Canberra to basically tell PM Gillard and co how useless they are...and to protest the no-exports in the live cattle trade...and the carbon tax, etc.

    Slim Dusty song/video.

    Look at those big trucks.

    Road warriors blitz Gillard

ROLLING road-going protests of industries and individuals angry at the Gillard Government will start winding their way to Canberra from mid-August.

    ___

Aug 16 there is to be a big "No carbon tax, we want an election" protest rally outside parliament house...www.2gb.com no1 radio station based in Sydney but going 'nationwide' on relay and worldwide on the net will be broadcasting from the rally.
Protesters from all over going by car, train, bus etc.

...against PM Gillard and co Labor Party.

They're destroying the nation...and the People have had enough.
...well the People with any idea have anyway.

Its great to see people making a stance against this carbon tax that will not do anything to clean the atmosphere and enslave us to the UN, Wall street and bankers.

I'm glad to see celebrities also coming out and speaking against this tax.

Julia Gillard is a liar, she lied she wouldn't give us a carbon tax and now shes lieing about the effects of Co2 on our planet to scare us into accepting it.

The carbon tax will harm our exports and will also impose a big burden on the Australian tax payer, this burden will increase always year after year.

    The truth be told

What a ridiculous statement. Sensationalism/alarmism at its best.

I am far from happy with the performance of the government, but I'm so sick of this "Gillard couldn't run a bath" mentality gripping the nation. We are such a privileged nation occupied by chronic whingers.

Let's not forget that the politicians have successfully maintained our freedoms for over a century, despite what the media may tell you. We incessantly chastise them for everything they do and the respect for the work they do, which they truly deserve, has gone astray. And I suspect now we are being punished for it. No give, no receive.

If certain segments of the population are not upset then the Government isnt doing its job. I have more faith in a government which makes legitimate unpopular decisions rather than one which constantly panders to public opinion.

well, we are about to find out. GFC mark is about to hit us. I wonder if we come through this relatively unscathed she will get any credit or just criticism from the bloated whingers for the inability to become twice as fat and lazy under her government as they did with Howard at the helm.

This is a genuine question: how long do you spend looking up this stuff (per day)?

Labor has been snookered by the Libs on this. I wrote a long letter to the paper, but never sent it about 6 months ago, now deleted.

Basically it said that Labor got spooked by the debt issue and have strongly announced to us all just how important it is to get the budget sorted and are now in a check-mate: If they put money into the economy, they will be blasted for another false promise. If they don't, they will help the economy scream.

The Libs, i swear, had a strategy. They weren't just beating the drum for a single issue - they knew (or should have) that a double-dip was likely and set up Labor to lose votes whichever way they turn.

    Labor's leadership is appalling.

Run it into massive debt...borrow and spend/waste money like there's no tomorrow.
She recently raised Australia's debt ceiling from $200billion to $250billion....more borrowed money to spend/waste.

If nothing changes soon there will be no tomorrow.

If there is a new election - who are these people planning on voting for?

Do they realise that the Liberal Party has exactly the same emission reduction targets as the Government and intend to use taxpayers money to pay for it?

Why is Tony Abbot's 'great big tax' better than Labors?

The Treasury certainly doesn't think it is:
Treasury has calculated that a "direct action" response to climate change, which prevents companies buying carbon offsets overseas to cover their local carbon bills, would push up the cost of greenhouse abatement to $62 per tonne in real terms by 2020, up from $29 per tonne under the government's market-based scheme.
    http://www.theaustralian.com.au/nat...d-priced-at-10bn/story-fn59niix-1226100104984

Why will the governments scheme 'destroy the economy' as the deniers are claiming - yet the Oppositions far more expensive scheme to achieve the same goals will not?

Could anyone explain this for us?

It is kind of curious they are voracious in wanting the Gillard government out but particulalry quiet when it comes to who their governmental victor will be.

I see a lot of "The sky is falling" type of posts in this section of the forum lately - a lot of doomy gloomy posts with little to no constructive ideas / input for making their case. I don't think they've thought it through any further that that of wanting this government out. High melodrama and making up special names for Julia and Bob seem more important to them than that of making an educated, rational case for their cause.

    Quite the circus here, lately.

i want to vote for that party that says farmers should be able to stop mining companies from exploring on their land - yet claim that it is the Greens that are "anti-mining"! You know - The Magical Unicorn Fairy-Dust Party led by the Magical Mr Raboott.

The same party that says "NO BIG TAX" - and then plans to achieve exactly the same emission reductions using tax payers money!

Isn't it funny that Alan Jones is known as "The Parrot"! It is Mr Abbott that is doing the parroting of Jonesy at the moment.

More like the convoy of no consequence, as some are now calling it.

Numbers were, um, down, on, er... what they were expecting. Hilarious.

Here, a tender, loving moment captured at the convoy of no consequence :

    Dear CONCers,
I am 62 years old and I am horrified how much of my life has been spent unwittingly contributing to the problems of the planet.
At the moment my legacy to my son reads something like this

"Here you go son, planet earth, it's all yours. It's an amazing place but it needs a bit of TLC. We've chopped down most of the trees, used up most of the clean air and fresh water and dug up most of the useful stuff we could find underground. As it turns out there is not an infinite supply of all this good stuff, so you'll have to go easy on it. With luck it should last another 40-50 years. Anyway I'm sure you'll think of something."

I'm not happy about this and I am going to spend the rest my life trying to do something about it. I suggest you do the same instead of wasting more of those precious resources in a convoy to criticize one of the few people who is trying to address these problems
