But isn't a grill very difficult to clean, though?

Not the ones I know. While some of them cook, the majority do not.

Not really. Not if you have the right tools.

A local Ralph's carried Prime as well as Choice beef. Then I discovered a more distant Ralph's also had dry aged beef, hanging in a glass case behind the butcher counter and when ripe, trimmed of all surface and cut into steak. The steak was like a limp cat. And Lord was it good. Best beef I have had forever. If you have the chance to purchase dry aged beef, highly recommended for a treat unless you are wealthy enough not to care about the $.

I miss a good piece of tree ripened fruit. Now, all so hard. Peaches aren't fuzzy anymore.

Don't clean it, just chuck it away and buy a new one. That's what I do with my counter-top mini ovens. (I can't bear cleaning the roof of an oven!)

    That's the downside.

But they're so cheap these days; the one I've got now (and I've had it for about 3 years) was under £50 - about £47.50 if I remember correctly. And it has an integrated fan.

I just made this elegant meal. It's a beautiful blend of fresh savory chicken, hand-cut Italian pasta, with dozens of organic herbs and spices.

Not really. Just turn it on, and after it gets hot, use a grill cleaner tool on it. It's not like it needs to be sterile, it's going to be heated to 400+ degrees.

Nothing to do with macho or not. It's a matter of practicality. I like to eat.

    Good on you.
Most right wingers proclaim themselves to be macho types not knowing the actual symbolism of the term.

As for me, I'm heading off to my kitchen. :)

What if one doesn't have access to a blast cabinet?
I use high heat and flax oil, but it's not like my grandmother's cast iron.

That reminds me of the time I was in a thrift store looking around and I spot an Asian lady eyeing off a Guzunder that had been put in amongst the cooking gear.

I had to explain what this very typically Victorian piece of furniture was all about and when she "got it" she screamed laughing and put it back in a hurry!!

I suppose a wire wheel on a drill would work. It's mainly to remove rust. I use bacon grease to season them. You aren't going to get new cast iron to be like grandmas. They don't have the same finishing process today.

I bought one of those hand hammered woks made in China. I guess it wasn't the best steel. It took a long time to get it seasoned properly. But now it works (or woks) very well. It just takes a long time to properly season a kitchen utensil. You have to bake the grease into the metal.
