http://insider.foxnews.com/2015/08/...ng-disabled-vet-over-handicapped-parking-spot All the officer had any right to do is check the man's identity to see if the handicapped tag was properly registered to him. Everything else was absolutely unnecessary and he needs to be disciplined. He definitely shouldn't be a sergeant, and should not even be a police officer. Knight
That sound of cloth rustling you're hearing? That's every plaintiff's attorney who watched that video getting wood. Hope the vet sues the city over this.
I wonder if James had a permit to show... Good cops or bad cops, compliance is always the best answer.
Incorrect. The best answer is for precincts to make it perfectly clear that such behavior will not be tolerated
How is that cop even fit for duty? He's overweight at clearly not very bright. Handicaps can include many things. Not all of which are immediately noticeable.
I always find this highly disturbing. The guy still works there and does his administrative duties of his fellow officers. It's rather clear the police is class of civil servants with way too many rights, when they abuse their authority in horrific ways.
That cop has a bad case of handicap envy. I suppose having to walk across the parking lot with that much bulk would do that. They do seem to give out handicapped placards a little too liberally. Then again, most places I go besides hospitals and wallmarts have huge numbers of unfilled handicapped spots as the only spots left.
There are definitely bad cops, I had a cop pull his gun on me and threaten to shoot me once because I took my registration out from the sun blocker without permission and it was a "sudden movement." But the cops that the media and left seem to latch onto in these high profile stories aren't the bad cops. They seem to mostly ignore the clear cut stories about the really bad cops. I find that worrisome, it brings out my inner conspiracy theorist.
Sounds like this cop needs a handicap parking spot... a mentally handicapped parking spot Oh man, aren't I just the funniest c*** around?

Anyway - yeah. We have this problem here too. People assume that because you "look" normal, you aren't worthy of a disabled place. While I disagree with mandatory disabled spots to begin with, it's clearly not up to the public or the police to determine if you're actually disabled. That's what the permit is for!
And that's the whole point. There are bad cops out there. They're a small percentage of the police forces across the country, but they do exist. The protests, criticisms, and accusations should be directed at those who actually violate the rights of citizens, and break the law. Those things should be directed at those who kill dogs, for no good reason. Those things should be directed at the cops that lie about why they arrest people. Those this should be directed at the cops who preform searches that are actually, intentionally, illegal. The protests for thugs that attack police officers, or people who kill themselves in jail cells, or resist arrest while overweight while having health complications are ridiculous. Knight
Which does little good when individual police officers do not have to pay out monetary fines for their own bad actions. They are not held responsible for what they do, as any settlements come from taxpayer money. Being reprimanded, and required to attend counseling, is nothing more than lip service without substance. Police officers who are regularly deferred to by the public, simply because they are police officers, will become acclimated to such, and expect it in every interaction they engage in, even if they are in the wrong. It creates an environment for greater abuse. - - - Updated - - - It could reasonably be argued that any police officer who tolerate their fellow officers engaging in such illegal practices, and make no effort to stop them, are equally bad police officers due to guilt by association. If you are silent about the problem, it is the same as agreeing with the practices that are at issue.
Did you notice that I said personally? If you do that, if you do that, the taxpayers don't pick it up, the police dept/sheriff's office doesn't pick it up, the government doesn't pick it up.
That would ultimately depend on whether or not the courts decide that qualified immunity applies in such a case.
