If it turned out the person was just an unarmed kid, you bet I would think I had just committed murder. If a police officer acts with as little concern for the lives of unarmed citizens as Byrd did he’s in the wrong career.

And the very least you'll get is a large civil suit! I had an attorney explain to me if I have a wall around my yard with no trespassing signs every six feet and an intruder jumps over that wall and my dog attacks, I can be sued BIG TIME! I had a similar instance happen and I was sued. You shoot an unarmed individual you had better be real clear as to how your life was threatened. You shoot someone through a closed door.....BIG TROUBLE!

 

Simple trespass onto your lawn is not breaking and entering into the structure, wall or not. You're comparing apples and broccoli.
I can sue someone for just about anything, that doesn't mean I can win. You need to harden up some.
I live in Texas where we don't have that issue. You shoot someone breaking and entering into an occupied dwelling, that's a justified shoot whether they're armed or not. Hell I can shoot someone breaking in to my neighbors house ffs.

Ashli Babbitt was the first one through the breech in the last bastion between insurrectionists and Congress. Because Lt. Byrd stopped her he stopped the mob following her through, saving the mobs life and the Congress he swore to protect. End of Story.

“He didn’t provide any statement to [criminal] investigators and they didn’t push him to make a statement,” Babbitt family attorney Terry Roberts said in an RCI interview. “It’s astonishing how skimpy his investigative file is.”

Roberts, who has spoken with the D.C. MPD detective assigned to the case, said the kid-glove treatment of Byrd raises suspicions the investigation was a “whitewash.” The lawyer’s account appears to be backed up by a January 2021 internal affairs report, which notes Byrd “declined to provide a statement,” D.C.
