Cops Arrest 2 Black Men Sitting In Starbucks For ‘Trespassing’: Video

The Philadelphia DA’s Office said there was a “lack of evidence” that the men committed any crime.

Philadelphia police are conducting an internal investigation into a viral video that shows officers handcuffing and removing two black men from the premises of a Starbucks store.

“The police were called because these men hadn’t ordered anything,” tweeted author Melissa DePino, who posted a video of the arrest on Thursday. “They were waiting for a friend to show up, who did as they were taken out in handcuffs for doing nothing. All the other white ppl are wondering why it’s never happened to us when we do the same thing.”

DePino told local news outlet Billy Penn that the incident happened Thursday afternoon and that a friend of hers shot the video.

Ben Waxman, a spokesman for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, told HuffPost that the two men were released at 1:30 a.m. Saturday. He said the DA will not bring charges against them.


“We declined to bring charges against the two men because there was a lack of evidence that a crime was committed,” Waxman said.

How is the justification police going to respond to this one?

Of course there are no charges, there was no crime. But someone will certainly find a crime where there is none. And it's obvious why......

 

Ever since I posted this, I’ve had white strangers AND friends say “there must be something more to this story.” That assumption is a big part of the problem. It does happen. All the time. Just not to you and me. Believe it and speak up.

 

if they were asked to leave by staff and they refused, then they committed trespassing.

if they were never asked to leave, no crime was committed.

 

They were not charged with anything. There was no crime committed.

 

It happens "all the time" because there are 200,000 cops out on patrol in this country every night, so, yes, some go over the line. But the fact it is a national story speaks more to its rarity than it being some kind of scourge. There are bad priests but priests are mostly good. Same with teachers and cops. Bad cops is not our greatest peril here, crime is.

But either way because they're Black you know Starbucks is probably going to shell out a few hundred million in "damages" to those two guys and payoffs to the professional riot groups.

Now when someone wearing a Trump hat gets kicked out of somewhere there is never any restitution.

 

I'm putting this moreso on the employee who made the call.

That Twitter post the young lady made was not so much about cops, but about assumptions in general.

trespassing isn't a real crime but i think it's really brave that you think that racially profiling people for being in a starbucks is acceptable

 

Happens all the time but not always to the same people.

Cops, church goers, open carriers, and Trump hat wearers, and so on get booted out of places just as much as "hood looking" Black people.

Only difference is our society doesn't demand millions in "damages" be paid to the cops, the church goers, the open carriers, and the Trump hat wearers, nor do professional riot squads descend upon stores when they're booted out.

Nice justification and nice apples and oranges comparison. These men were arrested for being black, plain and simple. They didn't choose to be black. Trump supporters choose to be Trump supporters. (Unfortunately)

Why isn't there anything in your rants about why the Starbucks cucks chose to the cops in the first place?

calling the police on two black guys who are loitering in your store, but you never asked them to leave, is a crime.

you can't tresspass anywhere unless you are first asked to leave

 

store owners can suck **** for all i care, the police have no business locking people in cages for standing in a coffee shop, and the idea that this would have happened to white customers is a grand and intoxicating innocence

Go troll somewhere else. I'm familiar with your post history.

 

Problem is we don't have the full story.

Think about it.

Look how many cops there are in that video.

Officers respond 1 or 2 at a time and then trickle in as the incident develops.

Something caused that many cops to be there, and that thing is an unknown at the moment.

 

I can't count how many restaurants I've sat in waiting for someone and not once was I harassed or projected as a criminal. The same could be said for millions of other people.

 

hint: it starts with black and ends with skin

 

The guys need to picket the Starbucks.

 

Where does it say they were handcuffed for being black?
