In cell phone video first aired on KHOU Tuesday night, three HISD police officers surround Ixel Perez, two of them have her pinned to the floor face down. One officer has his knee pressed to the side of her head http://www.khou.com/story/news/loca...l-phone-tells-her-side-of-the-story/15040013/ Why couldnt the school just expel her for refusing to follow the rules? I dont get why cops had to get involved AT ALL. This vice principal and teacher must have severe anti-disrespect issues which spills over into over-forced authori
You want cops in schools, you get cop behavior in schools. Did anyone think they would somehow alter their use of force procedures? That is a textbook apprehension of a resisting person. The knee on the head is used for control, not to inflict pain. A trained officer can do it without causing serious injury or even any real temporary pain. Sometimes it can cause injury. That's the risk the officer is either willing or unwilling to take. It's the same with the neck restraint. It can make a person pass out and even die of asphyxiation. In my view, they could've let her go and fought on another hill.
She should have given the phone to the principal when asked, per school rules. Cops could have been a bit less rough.
Was she injured? Did she have as much as even a mark on her? They probably did what was necessary to contain an irate 16 yr old girl that doesn't think the rules applied to her.
They were taking away her cell phone, just like every other student has their cell phone taken away from them if they use the phone in the classroom. Not sending her to the gas chambers. Death for the jews is an unconscionable law. No cell phones in the class room is not. - - - Updated - - - And obey the school rules regarding cell phones.
my sons school has a no cell phone in class rule he could have it confiscated and returned at the end of the day without a fine...worst case scenario if a student refused he/she would be sent to the prinicipals office and the parents would be notified...physically assaulting a kid over a phone seems to me an extreme over reaction...
So there are limits yes? The poster I quoted stated you should always just do as you are told. "Point of story is, obey your school teachers and do as commanded by the police." The point of the follow up law suite against the PD will be "don't physical assault a minor for a HS infraction".
Yes, she was mouthing off and talking on the cell phone.. 1st world problem. Next time, give up your cell phone and start learning in school. That's what you are there for. Back in the olds days, you would get a belt or made to sit in the corner... and in some countries you still do get the belt or the paddle...
So talking on the cellphone while standing in a hallway is a threat to police safety.... oh silly billy.
Yes, be glad the police didn't pull a travon martin... when you are in school as a student and the cops say no cell phones, listen next time. Don't start running away from people and act like a moron... 1st world problem...
lYeah that 70 lb girl sure was a threat. My lord sheeple/statist are gonna sheeple/statist. Over and out.
A kid talking on a cell phone in school isn't a police matter, let alone any type of crime. That needed to be handled by school officials.
Police here would decline to get involved its a minor high school discipline infraction...what's next handcuffs and tasers for chewing gum in class...
I worked for a school district that had it's own police force--they weren't just loaners from the Sheriff. I thought it worked better, as the officers were trained to deal with kids. They would not have intervened in this case. About the only time they arrested students were 1) when there was a fight; 2) when a warrant from the outside was brought in and 3) if the drug dogs detected drugs. In this case, the officers were out of line. The admins obviously didn't have much respect in this school.
Even in usually-reasonable Texas, the unionized government-run schools become more tyrannical every day. More evidence of a crying need for competition.
Yes, and it speaks volumes about the crass incompetence of the school authorities that they felt it appropriate to call the police over such a trifle as this. What a screw-up.
What most here are not realizing is, these "cops" are hired by the school district. These are HISD police, not the city cops.........
Again for you. "call the police" is a misnomer here.............the police were already there patrolling the campus.....they are there everyday.
