It has nothing to do with socialism. Just because (you think) you hate socialists doesn't mean anyone who does something you hate are socialists. All the locals are doing here is expressing their opinions. Would you deny them their free speech?

There is nothing wrong with that in general but the problem (in Cornwall and several other places) is that so many homes are bought as second homes or holiday lets that house prices get pushed up so much that local people can't afford to live there. It also damages the local economy, since there are fewer working people living there and therefore employers move away.

There also seem to be allegations of specific issues in this case, with apparent efforts of the second home owners trying to force the established locals from the area entirely.

How the situation can be resolved is a difficult (and largely unanswered question) but denying that there is any problem at all is just a demonstration of ignorance.

Why would anyone want to live in Cornwall all year round though?
It's not people's fault if they want to keep living and working in London to afford a holiday home in Cornwall; to commit to Cornwall, Cornwall would need international transport links and growth; all Cornwall has is beaches and ice cream and pastry; not worth leaving London for full time.
As it is, London's property marking is un-affordble, why should Cornwall get a break when London hasn't?
Cornish people just need to be educated on the market; their homes are valuable and make nice holiday homes.

Who said London shouldn't get a break too. It has different problems but there are certainly commonalities in some parts. It's one of the reasons I don't live there any more.

When I sell my current house as it is way to big for me now, it will not be sold to a second home owner, that is my choice. It will be a lot easier after covid as many people are being offered the chance to work from home and home can be anywhere in the UK. Intelligent people are aware that London is only a couple of hours away and they no longer have to live in a **** hole like London.

I used to run a depot at Staples Corner on the NCR commuting from Cornwall and staying in London two or three nights a week, nothing would get me back there!

I say good riddance if the schools close because all the houses are holiday homes; it's Cornwall's fault for being such terrible people.

Oh by the way I have a second home in N Wales, it is rented out to a local family, you see unlike you I have had a good job and can afford a second home, I just do so responsibly making sure that when I eventually move to the area there are decent services and I am actually contributing to the local economy. I like Cornwall...some of the roads are a bit narrow...but its a lovely part of the world.

 

Heading to Scotland in next few weeks to do North Coast 500 understand some of those roads are "interesting"!

 

errmm...its about loss of community....same as for example the Londoners when the Jamaicans and West Indians and Pakistanis moved in....all the threats and harassment.....its no different.
All the "cockneys" moved out of London into the home counties.
Its about rural communities wanting to keep what the rest of the country has lost...good luck to them....My kids can't afford to live in our village because of exactly the same reason.

You'll get some beautiful scenery! If you have time you should visit the Torridon Pump Storage facility. Its a hydro-electric system buried inside a mountain - its an amazing place
