"While we are confident that some states have controlled transmission, we are similarly confident that many states have not," the researchers, from Imperial College of London, wrote. They based their data on the number of people that might get infected by a single patient who has coronavirus. "Most states in the Midwest and the South have rates of transmission that suggest the epidemic is not yet under control." (They note that their study has not yet been peer-reviewed.) according to researchers.

 

We are almost certainly going to see huge spikes because of the riots and protests.

One of the reasons New Orleans was hit so badly was Mardi Gras. Now we see similar crowd dynamics occurring in many cities all at once.

Nope. Far more populous places have less infection.

 

That makes no sense. How is the infection getting into these 'remote' rural areas? People must be traveling around, which is something they should not be doing in a pandemic. Further, how is it spreading around these communities after it gets in to the area? Aren't the residents following protocols? What on earth are they doing? They don't live in apartments, or ride subways, or go to crowded urban supermarkets, etc. Makes no sense at all.

They are using anecdotes. Large studies, like the one showing no efficacy, are how we differentiate between anecdotal evidence, and scientific evidence.

In other words, the large studies make anecdotal claims irrelevant.

 

Perhaps, as long as they don't get pulled over and murdered by a cop on the way home.

 

Face it, the lockdowns are now officially over. It was the leftists that were shaming the lockdown breakers and protestors, but now that it's the leftist hordes that are out in the streets tearing their liberal city playpens apart, they won't be criticized for breaking isolation and not social distancing, and so the COVID lockdown saga is done and gone.

Let's see, I just posted stating that this will likely cause a spike.

But when you watch a man murdered by a cop on camera over a period of 8 minutes with 3 other cops watching and even helping, it is understandable that the outrage exceeds the cause of caution and good sense.

But a person has to have a brain, a heart, and a conscience to understand that.

Something went wrong at the end of last century. Or rather, the beginning of this century.

 

It's no mystery what led to this: Talk radio and Fox. They have pounded the rw with anti-science, anti-rational delusions, fear mongering, crackpot conspiracy theories, hate and division, for 30 years now. I have watched it happen every step of the way. And I have watched friends and family driven right out of their freaking minds with nonsense.

When the internet came along, and as it grew over the last two decades, the problem was amplified 100 or 1000 fold.

There has always been a rebellious element of the US, which we tend to treasure. But this is just stupidity and the total collapse of rational thought as a standard.

 

Doubtful that's the root of it. I suspect they've just ridden along on the coattails.

Probably more just the inevitable implosion of an empire which becomes so rich and powerful that complacency sets in. People stop striving and trying. Humility is lost. Once that happens, the fantasists try to revive dying animal instincts with Superhero movies, which just increases the disconnect.

No, it was when news changed from a public service, to for profit. That is when it started. And I have watched people's minds ruined by this crap right before my eyes.

BTW, the Fox format was invented as a propaganda tool by Nixon's people. It really comes from Nixon.

 

I know quite a few Americans, and have several family branches there (deep south through to far north east). None of them think it's what you're suggesting, and some of them are Republicans. Most are highly educated, not white, and are well travelled .. so I don't think there's an information deficit or cultural bias involved. They see it as a slow build, starting pretty much immediately post-war. Too much peace, power, and plenty - all at once. Not even lab rats do well under those conditions. They start gettin' real freaky.
