RNA vaccines initiate production of a very powerful set of neutralizing antibodies quite capable of preventing infection. They are antibodies against the actual virus just like antibodies from natural infection or killed/attenuated live vaccines or vector vaccines. These neutralizing antibodies are capable of preventing virus from ever entering your cells to reproduce.

There is NO evidence of uninfected individuals “carrying” or “transmitting” disease. NONE. Infected asymptomatics and presymptomatics, yes. Uninfected individuals who were protected from infection by sufficient titers of neutralizing antibodies, NO.

Note that we HOPED it would reduce viral load - we hoped because it doesn't target the virus itself. The vaccine does reduce viral load but there is virus present.

Do you know what a breakthrough infection is? The breakthrough infections are infections not prevented by the vaccination. The “substantial protection of individual vaccinees” is sterilizing immunity as a result of neutralizing antibodies preventing infection. Breakthrough infections occur because none of the vaccines are 100% effective at preventing infection. However, these “breakthrough infections” exhibit lower viral load than seen in natural infection in unvaccinated individuals.

In short, the first phrase of your pull quote “substantial protection of individual vaccinees” refers to vaccinated individuals who are protected from infection. These individuals DO NOT have a viral load because no virus is replicating in their cells. The phrase “breakthrough infections ” refers to just that. Infections not prevented by the vaccine, but still resulting in less viral replication.

If there are breakthrough infections there must be something for them to break through. That something is neutralizing antibodies produced by the body in response to the vaccine that prevent infection.

You have no idea what your source is even referring to.

I thought the vaccine worked on limiting break through infections, but I was unaware that the stopped all break through infections. I.E prevented infection altogether.
Most virus gets mopped up in the blood stream, but some always reaches (gets inside) cells, these cells are then destroyed by other parts of the immune system.
Is there a percentage above which it is considered you are uninfected?

 

The level of neutralising antibodies drops with time after peak levels. You can be reinfected if that level becomes not high enough. The body will increase that level once it is triggered but this may not be quick enough to stop transmission of the virus but may be quick enough to stop symptoms

The level of neutralising antibodies and immune response also detereates with age.

Once upon a time the measles vaccine was considered to give life time Immunity but then some people were reinfected which ruined that theory
