To maintain any worthwhile level of immunity you would have to catch covid every 6 months.
Anyone who thinks that is safer than getting vaccinated and boosted will not be a great loss to the gene pool.

Even with Omicron being much much much less lethal?

    https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abf4063

Immunological memory to SARS-CoV-2 assessed for up to 8 months after infection

Seems to me that those vaccinated + having had it naturally, leaving the argument that the vaccines are failing to the side, is probably most ideal.

Have you taken a look at that gene pool lately? Pitiful!

So, today at the park, a friend who is a nurse just went to get a flu vaccine and found out that they injected her with Moderna instead at the same time without her consent. She is all sorts of freaked out that Doctors would do such a thing.

Just a shout out to the vaccinated who are depending on vaccination alone to protect them from Omicron. I’ve been watching Massachusetts for months as a bellwether of sorts because they report statewide hospitalizations for Covid broken down into vaccinated and unvaccinated. A few months ago with delta the percentage of vaccinated hospitalized for Covid hit the 35% mark. It’s been steadily climbing and it’s now at 47% of those hospitalized for Covid being vaccinated vs. 53% unvaccinated. Today there are 3180 hospitalized Covid patients in Massachusetts and 1505 of them were fully vaccinated at time of infection.

I know you read the journalist’s opinions and hear only the unvaccinated are filling hospitals. That’s simply not true.

Please, especially if you are high risk of severe Covid, don’t rely on vaccination alone for protection. Eat right, get plenty of rest, cut as much stress from your life as possible, and get some exercise. Your health and possibly your life depends on it.

Vaccinated or not, you are going to get Covid. Now is the time to take ALL actions known to decrease odds of a poor outcome—not just one. The science is very clear, our lifestyle predicts the outcome of infection to a large degree independent of the act of vaccination. Take control of your destiny.

The key to healthy life is lots of rare red meat. Get lots of natural foods. Potatoes are good (vodka is a good source.) Here's a typical healthful meal:

Menu: "dirty" vodka martini, shrimp cocktail, another martini; "loaded baked potato”, VERY RARE Bone-In Ribeye; pitcher(s) of dark beer; flan; coffee w/Amaretto

Should really add that the rate of hospital admissions of the unvaccinated is four times the rate of the vaccinated using your figures above as 80% of Massachusetts are fully vaccinated. And since most of the hospitalised are elderly the rate will be even higher than 4 since more than 80% of the elderly are fully vaccinated

But it's certainly true that the vaccine wont stop you getting Omicron variant. My fully vaccinated friends are going down like flies! But every one of them said that it is really mild.

But 86% of the 80% have been vaxxed in the general (70%) population over the age of 46, meaning that 57% of the 36% not yet boosted will most likely never see the inside of a hospital... except for the 74% of the 92% vaxxed with two shots rather than one. However, those with two vaccinations should be secure in the knowledge that the Elizabeth Warren, with two shots and a boost, got the China Virus. This should be a boost for Republicans but possibly not a last shot.

Just heard about some new research which got me thinking. The premise is: Why is it some people never get covid even after continually mixing with people who are later found out to be infected. ATM I fall into the first category. The theory is that a previous infection of an "ancient" variant of covid could have given rise to T cell immunity. In around Sep 2020 I got a sore throat that just would not go away and lasted up to near Christmas ( I mentioned this before in this forum). I did not have any other significant symptoms. At the time I had this sore throat another friend had the same symptoms. We are about the only two in our large group that have not been infected with C19

Diddleysquat to you, however, to statisticians, Omicron’s daily cases 7-day rolling average is an important indicator.

The vaccination rate is 75% in Massachusetts and I’m just as concerned about elderly hospitalizations as any other demographic.

The fact is there are A LOT of breakthrough cases ending up in the hospital. We aren’t doing anyone any favors by pretending otherwise or by writing them off as statistics or because they are old.

Do we have reliable figures for the percentage of deaths from covid amongst the unvaccinated?
How about those in ICU or on ventilators?
Hospitalisations isn't the whole story is it?

In addition to the above, without a daily/7-day avg./total infection number, how one could confirm Omicron’s infection to Hospitalization ratio?

Based on South Africa/UK stats, and compared to previous variants, what we know is people infected with Omicron are 50% to 80% less likely to need hospital care, however, what are the U.S. “less likely” percentage(s)?

Also, what’s the method of determining Omicron’s IHR considering the fact that it’s incubation period was estimated at 3 days, and 3 to 10 days between symptom onset and hospitalization?

Several posters in this forum, such as 557,
do have the mental capacity to figure out the Infection-Hospitalization Ratio, and they should as foreign Covid stats have always been dissimilar to the U.S.

Many observations conclude hospitalized breakthrough hospitalizations are less severe. I have seen reports that mortality rates of hospitalized breakthrough infections are higher in some cases but it’s a function of age and comorbidity. I doubt much of anything is reliable at this point. Just look at the discrepancy between official Massachusetts data and what we see in the news.

No, hospitalizations aren’t the whole story. But telling people 95% of hospitalizations are unvaccinated is DANGEROUS misinformation. Why put vaccinated individuals into a false sense of security when they are at risk? That’s NOT advantageous to public health.

I can’t for the life of me understand why people get upset when ANY mitigation besides vaccination is mentioned. It’s bizarre. What’s wrong with using all tools to save lives?

Yes there are a lot of breakthrough cases, who has been saying otherwise? But that does not mean that the vaccine provides only a little bit of protection. Less than half the hospitilsed are vaccinated, let's say half. So if 75% are vaccinated then that means the rate of hospital admissions of the unvaccinated is three times the rate of the vaccinated

Nearly 90% of the over 50s are fully vaccinated. So if those in hospital are all over 50 then that means the rate of hospital admissions of the unvaccinated is nine times the rate of the vaccinated for the over 50s

Yes, by reporting that 95% of those hospitalised are unvaccinated is misinformation but who is reporting that, the hospitals or news reporters? But the figures you quoted are showing that around 90% of hospitalisations are unvaccinated when taking account of the vaccination rate.

In hospital, 47% vaccinated, 53% unvaccinated. If all over 50, and say 88% fully vacinated, then that would give rise to around 90% of hospitalisations are unvaccinated when vaccination rate is taken into account

As for mitigations I agree. i hardly ever see anyone washing their hands anymore

Agreed. But totally irrelevant to my very specific point. Clearly vaccination alone is not sufficient to keep a large demographic out of the hospital. It’s time to admit that and encourage other mitigations we KNOW are very effective.

The aged in Massachusetts are 99% one dose or more vaccinated. Counting boosters they are over 100% “fully vaccinated”. Yet almost half of hospitalizations are composed of a big share of this demographic. Ya’ll can write them off as old or whatever. Not good enough for me.

Where have I written them off as old? My posts advises everyone to get vaccinated, yours downplays vaccination

No. Facts are facts. The fact is in Massachusetts about half of the people taking up beds and resources are fully vaccinated. I don’t care about “vaccination rates”. I care that a BUNCH of people are going to the hospital that could be prevented from going to the hospital.

Don’t care. Irrelevant to the fact vaccinated are pouring into hospitals. The point is we are told the unvaccinated are the ones filling up hospitals etc. That isn’t true. It’s both the vaccinated and unvaccinated. There’s no reason to not admit that and work to change it

I’m not talking about hand washing. Hand washing doesn’t keep you out of the hospital when you catch Omicron.

Please quote where I’ve downplayed vaccination. I’ve posted FACTS. Facts don’t downplay anything.

Perhaps I’ve misunderstood your point in saying this:

“And since most of the hospitalised are elderly the rate will be even higher than 4 since more than 80% of the elderly are fully vaccinated”.

I am amazed how totally obsessed we are with the China Virus. I had it a year ago and I agree... "Big Whoop". The China Virus is up there with flower pots on my list of priorities. I have a family to care for, a retirement to enjoy, and grandkids to have fun with.
