Glad that your experience was not significant. Other folks are not so lucky.

Pfizer and BioNTech seeking emergency use authorization from FDA for Covid-19 vaccine for children younger than 5

Pfizer and BioNTech are requesting emergency use authorization for their two-dose Covid-19 vaccine for children age 6 months up to 5 years, the companies said Tuesday.

Pfizer and BioNTech said they have initiated a rolling submission of data to the US Food and Drug Administration after a request from the agency. They expect to complete the EUA submission in the coming days and say they will also submit clinical trial data to the European Medicines Agency and other agencies around the world.

The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is already authorized for use in people as young as 5 and would be the first Covid-19 vaccine available for the youngest children. The companies are continuing to test a three-dose version of the vaccine in this younger age group.

We have thousands of cases every day in the UK and its causing mayhem. Everyone testing positive has to isolate so school and work absences are through the roof. Worse still because the infection is so mild you don't build much immunity so you can catch it multiple times.

We need to stop this craziness and treat Omicron as another cold, which for the young and the vaccinated is exactly what it is.
The alternative is this goes on forever.

~ Apparently there are a few who are currently residing in the USA . One has spoken to FBI and has been interviewed.

~ That now seems to be accurate - unfortunately.

~ The elderly and infirm should be protected - not the entire population.

If we say vaccines provide “immunity” by preventing infection, hospitalization and death, then yes, we must apply the same definition to anyone who does not become infected when exposed or does not die after becoming infected.

So if the infection fatality rate is estimated to be 0.5% (based on what data we have this is a conservative estimate pre Omicron), we must admit that 95.5% of people do have “immunity” to the virus. If we are going to use the definition of “immunity” from vaccination as preventing death, we must apply it equally to any individual exposed to SARS-CoV-2 that doesn’t die. Unless of course we are going to be intellectually dishonest and apply definitions selectively to support our bias

~ Most deaths are among the aged and sickly - therefore this is the population who should be encouraged to isolate and use precautions. The fit and healthy, children and those with acquired immunity should be free to make their own healthcare decisions as it is unlikely they are at great risk.

Sentiment ranges from "Save my Grandma" to "Death to the Oldsters." We're so conflicted. I vote save Grandma 'cause I'm married to her.

Very few old people have died of omicron, but they do die as no one lives forever. Every year in the US atleast 45,000 old people die of pneumonia. That's because as you reach the end of your life your immune system fails and infections that would be harmless to a person with normal immunity are deadly to someone without.

Covid lags behind in Australia because of their policy of isolation which inevitably meant that as soon as they relaxed their borders they would have their own epidemic. Not sure how this relates to the UK/US?
There is no reason Omicron would end the lives of vigorous healthy oldsters. As I said it kills those with failing immune systems, not those who are healthy. (Age is just a number :))

Old people = degenerating systems, no matter how vigorous and healthy.

But those degenerating systems are the result of aging the reason we die.
Not sure what you want younger folks to give up for you?

As of Friday, more than 900,000 people in the United States have died of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

Experts believe the true burden of disease to be much higher. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that the number of Covid-19 deaths in the US was about 32% higher than reported between February 2020 and September 2021.

For the past two weeks, there have been more than 2,000 new Covid-19 deaths reported each day in the US, according to Johns Hopkins.

The World Health Organization declared Covid-19 a global pandemic on March 11, 2020.

I don't think it is a question of one age group "giving" up something for anther The pandemic is an equal opportunity virus. And it is not just the older group that is more vulnerable.......... as anyone with a preexisting condition is vulnerable too. Health folks are vulnerable too. In some way s it is just crap shoot if one does not get it... (and taking the precautions )

We are rather fortunate that a vaccine has been developed in the time frame it has.

Hi. I think my opinions on here are too angled to what's happening in the UK and not yet appropriate on here because you guys are still where we were last autumn.
I apologise as I see I might appear insensitive.

No, that’s ok, the situations are a bit different.
There’s an article in the paper this morning about the number of deaths we are willing to accept in order that restrictions can be eased. It’s a bit confronting.
