Getting the public ready. I think Fauci knows there are going to be far more than 100,000 dead. That is a best case and that horse already left the barn. They will probably keep upping the number of expected dead to ease the public into what's coming.

Trump already dropped the 2 million dead number. I doubt anyone expects it to get that bad based on the actions we're taking now. But at least you could tell that it finally got his attention.

Right now Italy is still looking at a 10% mortality rate.

 

The good news is that Italy has seen a relatively low infection rate - 100,000 of 60 million. They have tested 1 in 133 people - 454,000 tests. So about 1 in 4.5 of those test were positive. One has to assume that they are mainly testing people showing severe symptoms.

 

That's because China has just now stopped all foreign nationals flying into China. Now the US has stopped all flights. Not the case last week. You claimed that Trump put in a flight ban to China on 31st January. Wrong, there was no flight ban to and from China from 31st January. I couldn't sleep and decided to determine the equation of the infection curve in the US. Someone might want to check me on this. It's late.

Assume an equation of the form N = n x e^at satisfies the curve; where N is the total number of infections, n and a are constants, and t is the number of days since Feb 28.

I selected a few points on the known curve and arrived at N = 152 x e^ 0.207t.

Using this I checked to see when we should hit 1 million cases in the US. This solution puts it at day 42. April 11th - the day before Easter.

By the end of April, day 61, assuming the curve is maintained and accurate, we would expect over 43 million infections. That is about 280 times the number of infections we know about now. At that rate, everyone in the US would have it before the end of May. So the rate of infection will have to taper off significantly before then.
