“the "most chilling fact" for Americans is that "European-style speech controls have become a core value in the Democratic Party."

"Once a party that fought for free speech, it has become the party demanding Internet censorship and hate speech laws," he said. "President-Elect Joe Biden has called for speech controls and recently appointed a transition head for agency media issues that is one of the most pronounced anti-free speech figures in the United States. It is a trend that seems now to be find support in the media, which celebrated the speech of French President Emmanuel Macron before Congress where he called on the United States to follow the model of Europe on hate speech."”

It’s sad that the democrat party and the left has become the anti free speech side in America. Between fact checkers and cancel culture they have decided to censor and punish opposition speech. Heck, they and the SPLC a terrorist in spring hate group actually label opposing speech and religious beliefs as hate speech.

This is only the tip of the iceberg.

It's going to get much worse.

Soon they will make you do things like register in a national database if you want to attend church.

So do you support forcing Fox News to put AOC on the air once a week so she can voice her views and exercise her free speech?

They already have that. They listen to you with your phone. If you spoke bad about covid, Democrats might come arrested you.

    Coming to the US?

It's already here. Look at so many college campuses where free speech is tightly "regulated" and forbidden.

28 states have laws that criminalize and forbid any criticism of Israel by way of supporting BDS efforts.

What is "European-style speech control"? Just wondering. I thought most European countries also have laws protecting free speech.

So you would like to assure your free speech by denying others their right to speak?

In Germany it is now unlawful, ist verboten, to speak any narrative that contradicts or undermines the official covid narrative. I think England is considering similar legislation.

Probably one of the most glaring examples of "European-style speech control" is found in "holocaust denial laws".

Questioning any aspect of the fragile holocaust narrative can cost your job, money and/or freedom in about 17 "democratic" countries in spite of the fact that most people around the world reject that same fragile holocaust narrative that cannot stand up to honest examination and open debate.

”THE WORLD IS FULL OF HOLOCAUST DENIERS”
    https://www.theatlantic.com/interna...he-world-is-full-of-holocaust-deniers/370870/

EXCERPT. "Only a third of the world's population believe the genocide has been accurately described in historical accounts.

Some said they thought the number of people who died has been exaggerated; others said they believe it's a myth.

Thirty percent of respondents said it's probably true that "Jews still talk too much about what happened to them in the Holocaust."

    - Hindus were most likely to believe that the number of Holocaust deaths has been exaggerated.

    - people younger than 65 were much more likely to say they believe that facts about the Holocaust have been distorted”CONTINUED

What is the thread actually about, implementing regulations on internet corporations similar to those on the rest of our media corporations?

Wading through this hyperbolic nonsense makes it difficult to discern.

Oh boy, needing to resort to holocaust denial to find an example of "control" of free speech in Germany is pathetic.

The US is one of the most restrictive countries when it comes to swearing and nudity on television. Hence, the boatload of crap on tv. Can't offend people. But now, those who uphold these restrictions want complete freedom of speech. Something doesn't smell right about this...

People must remember that pleasant speech doesn't require protection. It is nasty speech and controversial speech that requires it. People must also understand that protection of speech does not include protection from the consequences of what one says. For example, government has to allow you to engage in libel. But it is a government court in which libelous speech meets a lawsuit.

As a matter of fact I'm ALL in for resurrecting The Fairness Doctrine, though I imagine I'll see the buried dead resurrected first.

That's odd, Jonathon Turley has appeared on CNN a number of times and no one is censuring him.

What the WND article amounts to is hysterics. It's based entirely on Turley's criticism of an Op Ed piece by Richard Stengel, who suggested America needs more stringent anti-hate speech regulation, whom Biden hired as transition leader ( or some similar post, I forget which ) a post which doesn't give him any authority whatsover over speech.

But, if you read the op ed, Stengel merely states "let the debate begin'.

    He's just saying, let's have a conversation

But, it does pose free speech issues as 'who will be the arbiter of hate speech?" .

I suggest that no such law will ever come to fruition in America, as it won't survive congress or the senate. And, noting that a few anti-hate speech hardliners on the left do not equal dems opinion on the issue, overall.

Again, your op is, in a word, jumping to hysterics.

Here is the Op Ed Turley is critical of. I welcome the debate, myself.

If Biden gets in there is a **** storm that is going to hit America. Free speech is already gone, this and other things on the commie's wish list have been incrementally introduced like the frog in the pot. Communists are if nothing else, are patient and work in the shadows. Look how they have taken control of the American psyche with Smart Technology, TV Programming, News Media, Social Media and Hollywood.Their control over information is absolute. If they control the executive and the congress they will attack the courts and pack them with a super majority. When that happens kiss the Constitution good bye. There is going to be considerable turmoil in the US and we will see a lot more violence and polarity between leftist groups and real Americans that will give Biden & Co.an excuse for the lockdowns they've been conditioning us with the covid hysteria. What is symptomatic of the coming destruction of America is heightened hateful political division that has increased exponentially since the 2016 election. It is abundantly clear that all of the confusion and hatred of the last year was orchestrated to create the kind of rabid polarity we have seen since the election, it is the final salvo. We might actually be witnessing the last days of our beloved republic.

Honest examination and open discussion of the holocaust is not only a crime in Germany but also about 15 other "democracies".
There are even forums in the US such as this one that prohibit open discussion of the holocaust.

One is free to openly discuss and dispute details of any other entity, event or individual throughout history except for the "authorized" holocaust narrative as crassly exploited and marketed by the fraudulent Holocaust Industry (1), (2).

In what way is a simple fact "pathetic"?

Straw man. The premise is government criminalizing expression. Please stay on topic.
