Well, I get paying for a child's public education, I don't get being responsible to pay for their engineering degree.

You probably also support forcing the taxpayer to pay for another adult's transgender surgeries, right?

Bernie is a moderate compared to what the Democrats have coming down the pipe.

My son's public high school provides him and other students with a Chromebook, although it's not his to keep and we're financially responsible (supposedly, LOL) if he loses it.

I like the Kurds, but not enough to send my son to die for them. Are you willing to send your son/brother/dad to die for them? How about you? Are you willing to go die for them?

You're just repeating Republican talking points. None of what you say is backed up with anything resembling facts.

And, yes, if you choose to further your education in a discipline that benefits society as a whole, you should be able to do that for free.

We are running in to a crisis in this country in that no one coming out of Medical School wants to specialize in internal medicine, i.e. your family doctor, they all want to specialize in a more lucrative field. I say pay the tuition up through Doctorate for someone who pledges to be a family doc for at least ten years. Society will benefit from that investment.

Sayint that we wouldn't benefit as a whole is jut shooting yourself (and the rest of us) in the foot.

Maybe, but I'll benefit more if I get to keep my $40K rather than paying for someone else's college education.

Why? Nordic countries see the benefit to society of education far outweighs the cost.

I don’t believe the taxpayer should fund cosmetic surgery, no. Why would you even ask that and what does it have to do with the discussion?

Agreed, they should have to pay it back. However I disagree with that they are being charged 2.5x the interest rate for a loan that you can not default on. To me that is stealing from the kids. A 30 year treasury bond is 2.2%, why are we charging the kids 6.5%, that is not right. Even the low interest loans to pell grant kids is over 5%?

Now I don't think the government should pay for 4 years of college, but the interest should not be more than a 20 year bond.

Not really. Not in the long run anyways.

Look, would you rather live in a country whose median education level is the 10th grade, or would you rather live in a society where the median education level is closer to a Bachelor's degree?

Which society do you think will be more productive economically?

Just a hypothetical, if one of these children that would have been left to poverty but was given a chance ends up being the one that cures cancer — or whatever disease — and that treatment is low to no cost, do you think you would benefit more with that 40k in your bank if your wife or child got sick?

Ok. Let's talk about another massive, federal program, the Department of Education. How much have we invested in it? Has our public education system improved since then? Actually, in spite of the MASSIVE public investment, I don't believe that it has. The problem with leftists like you is that you don't care if a government program actually benefits anyone, it's just the thought that matters, right?

That's insane. You're saying it's better for me personally to give someone else $40K than it would be for me to invest in mutual funds, etc. Pure insanity.

The Republican party would disintegrate in an educated society so many of them would rather wallow in filth than even consider the alternative. I mean the man they elected speaks at a fifth grade level and they love that he represents the US.

These kids wanted Apples. :) One school district got in a lot of trouble. Their IT department installed spying software in case the laptop was stolen. Some students took them home and then IT remotely turned on the laptops webcam and was able to see around the students bedroom. You can imagine how well that went down.

If college ever becomes "free", everyone will go, plenty will quit, the costs will be through the stratosphere and our standard of living will DIMINISH.

Compare our education system with any of the top 10 nations in the world — the way we do things is the issue.

Top 10 nations based on what? A lot of it is cultural. No amount of money in the world is going to change our culture, or theirs.

That isn’t happening in states that have implemented “free” community college, it isn’t happening in nations that have implemented “free” national education — thanks for your opinion and fearmongering on the subject though.

Guess we should just do nothing then, I cannot wait personally until we decline even further in educational attainment. How long before we are overtaken by superior cultures in your view?

We pay to educate people through high school. Once they become an adult, they should pay for their own education as well as sex-reassignment surgery.

Why do you feel other taxpayers should subsidize you for these things through higher tax payments?
