The problem with your proposal is the expectation that everything in this country can be improved if we just take from some people and give to others.

    That isnt how things work.

Why do we allow people to file for bankruptcy then?

Why should other people pay for a 'higher education' that will provide monetary and social benefits to the receiver?

Your house was an option you chose to assert, just as higher education is. You and you alone are responsible for that choice, just as people who choose higher education are.

People can file for bankruptcy, but that does not mean it is granted. Judges will consider the causes, and the assets (if any) that can be liquidated to even partially offset the write-off.

As a taxpayer, I'd like my tax dollars to be used responsibly. Forgiving student loan debt and indiscriminately giving free college to everyone is, in my opinion, irresponsible. Colleges will greatly increase tuition if it has no effect on their enrollment. In fact, student loans are partly to blame for the increases in tuition costs we've been seeing for decades.

Why is everyone taking an "all or nothing" approach to this? We're smart. We can discern an education that benefits society from one that doesn't. The figures are out there. We know which careers are most in demand, and we know which degrees are required to enter those fields. I'm happy for my tax dollars to go toward doctors and nurses because we need those.

We're not being smart about granting student loans at the moment. Giving loans to someone who will have little ability to pay them back is predatory lending.

I think the thing that most folks are missing here is that this isn't just a bone to wayward millennials who aren't willing to pay back their loans. This is welfare for those socialist teachers and professors and universities that are in need of future revenues to support their ghastly weight. We always seem to overlook the obvious. Kids need the loans, buy why? Because the universities are sucking the revenue out of the economy to support their little skunk works social indocritnation programs, and this is how folks, like Warren, repay them for their support and efforts.

Hide the truth with a fight over victimhood. It's classic.

Prior to bankruptcy laws, there were debtor prisons. We incarcerated people who went broke.

Bankruptcy is a methodology of allowing people to establish financial failure and remove creditors from pursuing further action. You can't bleed a turnip.

Bankruptcy carries stiff repercussions, prevents people from getting future loans, impacts their credibility, and overall carries years of negativity against the person.

Not sure what this has to do with the subject at hand.

Which is BS I might add.

I am tired of the government writing different rules for themselves than they expect the public to follow.

The argument that the gentleman presented is weak, as least based on it being an "argument"
But as far as presenting a point, hes spot on.

The whole free college and/or loan forgiveness thing is enough for me to eliminate any candidate that is in support of the idea, and at least for me it can end there.

I also have little issue with the interest rates charged on the loans, which was mentioned earlier, if the loans weren't so dam easy to get then I'd feel differently but as it stands now, I think its fair. I have little (if any) sympathy for anyone spending 100K or more on a degree that isn't in demand, this has been covered at length.

Even when CBS did their college debt segments in late 2019 several segments that lasted a couple of weeks, probably 75% of the examples they used were some of the worst examples I could think of in defense of their argument, its almost as if they wanted to shame college grads who made bad decisions while pretending to be defending them, which is pretty bad considering that I assume they went to great lengths to find people who would draw the most sympathy, totally backfired in my household.

    for example.
    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/studen...ruggle-under-the-burden-of-student-loan-debt/

She could still have done that "dream job" as a 7th grade dropout.

Again, this is the type of person that a major news organization decided was a GOOD example, I think i'd fall out of my chair if I saw the examples that they skipped over because they thought would make college grads look bad.

I'd be in support of working to lower tuition costs, I've always been in support of state based subsidies which many have.

If you make it free, or plan to forgive the debt, the list of applicants will increase dramatically which means more students will get turned away, probably a good chunk of the disadvantaged ones too. I'd go back if it was free, why not? I have the free time. The only reason I don't go back is because the cost isn't offset by any increase in income in my career choice, so the logical choice is to not spend the money which would be wasted.

If you make it free I'd go back, I know I'd beat out other less qualified applicants, so i'm pushing someone else off the list that wants to better their life but now they can't even get in because people like me will beat them out.

She totally sidestepped when CBS asked her about it this morning, ranting on something about social security instead.

18 - 22 year olds don't have the means to pay for education without credit.

Here is the problem, much like our healthcare system. The costs are buried in government mandated bureaucracy. What does it cost to go to the ER and have an MRI? Up until recently, people had absolutely no idea. With the complications of billing, regulations of government, and involvement of insurance... the costs can be high because nobody knows what it costs.

In college, people just pay X-dollars per credit hour, because the loans cover it. They want a degree, and they don't concern themselves with the payment amortization of that loan. I bet if you went to 100 college students that currently have loans, not a single one of them could tell you what that loan value translates to in terms of monthly payments over what term. They don't have any idea.

So you got a bunch of kids, taking out government backed loans, going to college and throwing money at the Universities who in turn pay their administration and staff un-godly amounts of money... its a disaster.

I have know people like Donald Trump that has filed for bankruptcy several times yet still get loans and are still in business..The impact that may happen is ten years which is better than carrying bad credit and trying to improve it.

If he owned them then he made the decision to file for bankruptcy. So in fact he filed for bankruptcy and he was in charge of the decisions or actions which drove it to the point of needing to file for bankruptcy. Do you always fall on the dagger for your el supremo being you adorate?

If you dont know the difference between personal bankruptcy and a company claiming bankruptcy that is on you. Lack of knowledge on the matter has nothing to do with Trump.. Its on you.
