Another cop misuses their firearm. This time they were in the wrong apartment. Amazing. But many want us to believe firearms make America safer, or that training is the answer to gun safety. Don't cops undergo training?

This is not even a firearm-related discussion.

How did the law enforcement officer even enter the wrong apartment and not realize it? Do apartment doors not have their own individual numbers for easy identification? Do the doors not use individual keys that do not work in other locks? Did both individuals make a habit of not leaving their doors locked? How did the law enforcement officer not recognize the layout and decor of the apartments was different from their own?

So you would disarm cops? Good luck with that. She is an idiot and will go to prison.

This is not a discussion that possesses any relevance to firearms.

I can't help but suspect alcohol or drugs might be involved.

She killed a neighbor with her gun, but it's not about firearms? What happened to all the training about being aware of your surroundings I hear about from firearm instructors?

    Correct.

Law enforcement is not provided with such training. They are provided with basic, rudimentary training in how to work the controls of a duty firearm, and nothing else.

    Incorrect.

Law enforcement is not provided with awareness training? Funny.

Your entire argument seems to be that you're intent on smearing all cops because a fraction of a percent of them misuse their firearm. Do you understand proportion?

Hi, so what proof do you have of this? How many law enforcement academies have you been to? I've been to two. You're full of it. Have a nice day.

The member 6gunner is a professional firearms instructor and former law enforcement officer, and can attest to such being the case.

Then actually prove such to be the case.

Correct. If they were then they would not be claiming they were afraid for their life in encounters where a reasonable person would not be afraid.

"You can attest" which isn't a legitimate source. I have participated at police academy in scenario training. You're still wrong.

The national accuracy ratings of law enforcement precincts is evidence of such. Nationally in the united states, no precinct has an accuracy rating above forty percent for rounds discharged in the line of duty. This means that for every ten rounds discharged by law enforcement in the course of their duties, only four ever strike the intended target, while the other six go on to strike anything or anyone in their path.

And then there are news accounts such as this https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/nypd-84-shots-brooklyn_us_55ec4b31e4b093be51bbb978 where law enforcement manages only a one percent accuracy rating.

In other words, you have no direct proof of the validity of your claims, but refer to a vague "precinct rating" which you assume extends to prove your position.

Again, I have first-hand experience. You're still wrong.

And for some odd reason, in spite of that you just said the academies teach people how to shoot, you post a HuffPost article which shows some cops are horrible marksmen.

The OP isn't about cops in particular, it's about the misuse of firearms in general. Could have been any firearm owner.

You cited cops and a cop story, then proceeded to make a generalized attack on firearms.

This isn't a cop control forum. It's a gun control forum. Cops carry firearms for a living.

I'm guessing there is more to this story than we know now. Too many oddities that just don't add up. This isn't a gun issue, this is going to end up a people issue. Its sad that someone would try to exploit this as a gun issue or worse an attack on all law enforcement over the actions of a single individual...

Guns are dangerous in the hands of all but a few of us. That anyone would pretend they aren't is shameful, and a lie.

Are those present expected to believe that the attesting on the part of yourself pertaining to the firearms training of law enforcement, is more credible than that of others who hold the position that their training is rudimentary at best?

Factually incorrect. Firearms are dangerous in the hands of everyone if they should choose to utilize them in a reckless manner.

I agree- we should be arming ourselves to protect ourselves from police incompetence. LE doesnt always set the bar high enough before hiring, training and arming officers, so you should be arming and training yourself as a backup in case they fail.
