I would happily take any of those (as long as they're not in QLD or WA). That's my idea of heaven :)

The climate. I don't do well without a winter. And by winter, I mean frequent sub zeros.

Maaate! I am in North West Queensland and you have NO idea how cold Boulia can be!! Every year they have a Camel race and every year the poor buggers camping out in tents nearly freeze to death

Oh yeah, the inland can get pretty cold .. even that far north. It's just not the kind of cold I need to stay sane. I need DAILY low temps (as in, lows of zero or minus and highs of like, 5 or 6). I'm also not much of a flatlander, needing to be at 800m, minimum.

WTF is - that if your kids work in a job comparable to yours
they will not achieve your standard of living.
And your grandkids reduced to iddy biddy Asian apartments.

    That WTF! :blowkiss:

    Hmmmmm

Have you ANY idea of how much of Aus is underdeveloped?? You should since it is like Canada. Just because the main cities have dense housing does not mean we have run out of room. We are at more risk from retirees buying up "tree change properties on the outer suburbs and displacing farming

But why would you fail (as a parent) to understand that things will inevitably change - and what was right for you won't necessarily be right for your kids? An essential part of our job as parents is to prepare them for THEIR future. The reality they have to survive in.

    SAVE YOUR AUSTRALIA!

Stop embracing the "grow we must" philosophy.
Focus on the next generation having what you have if they work as hard.
High growth destroys that possibility. Slow down!
    AND
Solution: Require productive farms to stay, productive
    as ownership changes. Easy peezy

We got a lot of land in the West but it is under Federal occupation.
Don't ask me why. I can't figure it out.

    federal_lands.jpg

Nicer than the interior of AussieLand, mostly.
They should create new cities with room for metropolitan growth.
Give someone like Elon Musk a tax deal to set up there, etc.
Idea from Senator Eugene McCarthy, Peace Candidate 1968 not to be confused with Joe
Better than just adding to current population centers and infrastructure.

    Jobs as key as infrastructure.

Recipe for lower standard of living for the same work
    for future generations.
    That's why.

Change should elevate the standard of living,
    like post WW2 :flagus:
    People got more.
Not so much the profiteers as today.
And we had tariffs too.

Bloody real estate here is out of control price-wise. Mrs showed me a couple of videos of absolutely beautiful homes in Moncton, New Brunswick. $C 300,000 can get you a really lovely house.

Right, so since you know that, why wouldn't you prepare your kids for it? It just means that if you earned a good living as say .. a carpenter, your kids will need to be doctors to earn the same living tomorrow. It's pretty simple.

Australian real estate is incredibly expensive, sure. A run down and badly built two bed one bath 20kms from the city, is $1mil. What chance does the 'average' 25 year old have of buying property if they insist on remaining in such areas?

We need to give the 25 year old the opportunity to be a home owner if he is a working person.
    Agree?
That may be accomplished via tax laws. Ponder on it. No map from Moi.

No one has a 'right' to million dollar properties. And we already give ALL young people the opportunity to be home owners. It's called education, and it's freely available to anyone who wants it.

    NOT a matter of "rights".

    A matter of -
what is healthier for society, renters or homeowners?

Home ownership is healthier for INDIVIDUALS, but you need both for SOCIETY. Or at least a 'free' society.

Home ownership is healthier for society too!

People have an investment in their neighborhood, nation and everything in between.
    Makes for stability.

Sure, but don't you want people to have the choice? And don't you think that the rental industry is an important one to many small scale investors?

    No!

We disagree. opting out of :deadhorse:
Take the last word as you chose.

    Confused by "choice" ref.
I believe it will be inane. Or paraphrasing Moi or outright, putting word in . . .
    No further reply from me.

In my neighbourhood, few young couples in their 20s moved in and built new homes which look quite expensive. I think it's their parents who pay their mortgages as a covert form of inheritance. Otherwise, you cannot get on the property ladder.
