All the real power is still in the hands of military officials. Even if Ang Suu Kyi's party held all the seats in Parliament, the military could just ignore whichever of the laws they wanted to, or even dissolve the Parliament altogether. Though by law the President is the executive, in actuality the office of President by itself holds very little real power, whatever the military will allow. The President does not have the capability to carry out his will in the face of military opposition. This just demonstrates the vacuity of a democratic body without the structural means to enforce its premier power.
