It was never more than a meme for social media and so the far left can be exercised.

There was no chance that the Supreme Court could be expanded in this way. Nor, is it a good idea, politically.

Some times you just have to let the nonsense play out.

Well I think your relieved judgement-- so to speak-- is premature. All along I had my doubts that Biden would have the chutzpah for this bold move, & felt that Pelosi would also be very reluctant to pull the trigger. But the RIDICULOUS part was the Democrats' talking about it! "You better not 'steal' another seat or, if we win both the Presidency & the Senate Majority, we'll go nuclear on you! But, if you don't try to push through a nominee, we won't exploit our massive advantage, if we get it in the election."

One way to see the current statements is merely as an attempt to follow a rational stratagem. It makes no sense to threaten to do shockingly unpopular things, & then not do them. These threats were seen, I'm sure, by Republican politicians as nothing but the Democrats voicing their anxieties over being put in the position of looking like wimps because of their fear to do what the far left of their base would call for; even for that part of the base, the preference would clearly be to win the battle w/o needing to fire a shot, and speaking about the hardball tactics was merely a sort of fantasy wish-fulfillment, imagining they had could play the cut-throat game they see Republicans as playing.

Conversely, not focusing on what they might feel compelled to resort to-- & for which they did not know if they would get the opportunity-- would be what any sane Republican would do if he WAS considering that move. Not to say they still wouldn't prefer to get the Republicans to play by their own interpretation of the rules, but clearly, one shouldn't take any few political statements as gospel. Desperate times...

They will do it if they win the presidency and the senate. They just don't want to look like the bad guys during the election. And they will bring up the Republicans stealing that seat in 2016 as justification.

Stealing in 2016 wouldn't have been as bad if they didn't abandon the justification they used back then to take a seat in 2020. Likewise, taking the seat in 2020 would have been no big deal had they not stolen it in 2016.

Yeah. Dems are going to be mad about this. Republicans seem to think they're going to be in power forever. Retaliation is going to be a bitch.

It will, assuming Biden wins and democrats actually take the senate, which isn't a given at this point. And even if they do, the economy will be bad, and I don't know how long they will be able to keep power, especially when democrats aren't that popular themselves. But they will have time to add seats to the court.

Well, if Trump gets a nominee through before he is ousted, and the Dems win the White House, hold the House and win the Senate, as I have been told here many times.....politics demands that they increase the numbers to wrest back 'control' of SCOTUS. I reckon that is appalling. I have been thoroughly consistent. The fact that the Constitution allows this sort of crappy cheap politicisation of SCOTUS is outrageous, corrupt, scandalous. But, it seems Team USA likes it that way when the chips fall 'their' partisan way.

'Retaliation' seems to be political soup de jour in the USA.

It doesn't seem that all Dem senators agree with your analysis here.

Do you really think the people in blue states having riots, that their lawmakers allow to carry on will actually give you more seats in the House and Senate?

They are only "backing off" because they don't want to scare away a certain type of voter.

Once Biden Wins and they take the Senate, they will do whatever they want.

I would imagine public opinion was appalled. Equally Nancy has given up on impeachment, her comments confirmed that the DNC were using it as a political weapon and nothing more.

It’s like somebody said so eloquently in here, retaliation is a bitch. After almost 4 years of constant attacks on President Trump, and now Democrats are expecting Trump to play nice with them? I hope that Trump undermines the Democrat Party to the breaking point where it will never recover politically in Washington DC ever again. The glory days of JFK are gone forever. What’s left of the Democrat Party is this pathetic, shameful mess with that old drunken dingbat Nancy Pelosi leading its downfall.

Hell! They could have just given Obama’s pick a token nod, knowing he wouldn’t be sitting in that bench, and this wouldn’t be a big deal.

GOP ought to feel some sense of responsibility for any controversial actions over this from the left.

Isn't that foolish? Just as when they endorsed President Obama's executive orders because "it will be 20 years before Americans elect another Republican president".

Your predictions have a dismal track record, to the point that if you say something is going to happen, it gives me renewed confidence that it won't.

Yup, we'll see. I'm not particularly concerned about it, after having read comments from various dem senators.

Yes but the GOP tells the American people what they are going to do and then do it when they win the elections...
